We are behind both Indiana, at #27, and Iowa at #32. We swept Ind and took 2 of 3 against Iowa, with both series' being on the road.

We need to not falter like last year at the B1G Tourney as our RPI will descend further.

On the flip side, this has us as a #2 in Corvalis:

For all those complaining about a poor 2023 season, why don't you switch your allegiance to UNC or Syracuse and then you would have something to bitch about. UNC probably has the best recruiter in the county in Joe Breschi , but always seems to be spinning their wheels. Syracuse has not made the tournament in a few years, and in addition last year's Teewarton award winner Logan Wisnaukas and one of this year's finalists both began their careers at Syracuse. Each year both programs seem to lose significant talent to the portal.

I tend to be an optimist, and even though this season ended early, there were several encouraging developments. When the final whistle sounded against Army the Terps had 4 freshmen on the field, Erksa, Kolar, Ruppel and Schaller). In addition, several sophomores improved tremendously, to me, Eric Spanos, Zach Whittier and Colin Burlace.

Goalie. Here's hoping Logan McNaney is fully recovered from his injury. If he is not, I have confidence in Brian Ruppel. Even though Ruppel was a 5 star recruit, I had my doubts about him because of his high school competition. He played in the public school system in Baltimore County where the competition is weak. I always wonder if any of the Private schools tried to poach him away. He will be fine with coaching and experience.


Defense. Ajax should be back, and even though he missed several games he was recently named a second team AA. His running mates will be Colin Burlace and A.j. Larkin/ Will Shaller. Whoever does not start on defense out of Schaller and Larkin will probably be a long stick middie.

Midfield. The short stick middies will be Eric Kolar and Dante Trader. After a year of shaking of the dust I expect Trader to be greatly improved. The long stick will be either Larkin/Schaller and Redd and I am not sure of McDonald is back. Since the attack has some numbers, I expect some people to switch back and forth between units. jack Koras will definitely be on the first unit alongside maybe Owen Murphy and Zach Whittier. In addition, you have Eric Malever, returning from injury and redshirt freshman Aidan Aitken who could earn time. Also keep an eye on Elijah Stobaugh from IMG Academy. We also have to make room for Marco Signorelli.

Attack. Here's where we have some numbers. Erksa should be the ringleader, but you also can factor in Dan Kelly, Eric Malever, Eric Spanos, Zach Whittier and Owen Murphy. With Erksa and Malever you have two players who can create opportunity on offense.

Faceoff. Is a question mark. Do you look to high rated incoming freshman Sean Crater or maybe the transfer portal.



Speaking of the transfer portal one name really intrigues me and I would like to him in a Terp uniform. Keep the name Alexander Vardaro in mind. Second team AA out of Princeton. I know we do not typically have transfers from Princeton, even though I believe Mike Chanencuk was one, he would be a welcome addition.

If there is one player from the past few years, I would like to clone it is Roman Puglise. His type of play on the field is something this year's team sorely missed.

St. John's guard Daquan Davis is officially down to a final four of Maryland, Providence, Mississippi St. and Notre Dame. He will officially visit Maryland the week of June 19 (his final OV). The biggest threat here is likely the Irish and former PSU head coach Micah Shrewsberry. With that said, I'm putting in my FutureCast for the Terps this afternoon. I really like Davis' game and think he will fit in well with the Terps.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of Maryland defensive back Deonte Banks was selected by the New York Giants in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft on Thursday night. Banks was chosen No. 24 overall, becoming the highest Terrapin draft pick since D.J. Moore also went No. 24 overall in 2018.

Banks is the 18th player in program history to be selected in the first round. Over the last six NFL Drafts, Maryland has had three first round selections (DJ Moore, Darnell Savage Jr.), the fifth most of any Big Ten program.

With Banks’ selection, Maryland has now had a player chosen in six straight and 27 of the last 29 NFL Drafts. The Terps have also had a defensive back selected in four of the last five drafts (Nick Cross, Antoine Brooks Jr., Darnell Savage Jr.).

“The Giants are getting a truly special player and person,” said Maryland Head Coach Michael Locksley. “I know Deonte has been dreaming of this moment ever since being a kid growing up in Baltimore. I've seen firsthand the hard work and tireless effort he’s put into becoming a great player and teammate. I’m so proud of him and elated for his entire family.”

Banks registered nine pass break-ups and an interception, while not allowing a reception of over 30 yards when targeted during his redshirt junior season in 2022. According to Pro Football Focus, Banks allowed only a 43.3-percent completion percentage when targeted by opposing offenses (26-for-60), the 18th-best mark in the nation and second-best in the Big Ten.

A 2022 Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection, Banks totaled 38 tackles (25 solo) for a much improved Terrapins defense, which allowed its fewest number of points per game and total touchdowns since 2010. Banks was star at the 2023 NFL Combine, running a 4.35 40-yard dash and posting a 42” vertical jump and an 11’4” broad jump.

Banks is expected to graduate with his degree in Family Science next month.

The NFL Draft continues on Friday with the second and third rounds. The draft concludes on Saturday with final four rounds.

As a Magruder grad, never root for Sherwood kid, but now that he is a Terp, I will.

We were just ahead of the curve in getting out of that mess.

From what I understand, F$U has long been unhappy with the A¢¢ payouts and they're leading a group of schools (The Magnificent 7) in looking to realign the payouts in favor of themselves. The schools according Brett McMurphy are F$U, Clemson, Miami, UNC, Powerhouse N.C. State, UVA, & VT.

Notable schools not on the list.

Dook - Nobody cares about Basketball and that is all Dook offers.

Syracuse, Pitt, and Louisville - The more recent additions from the old Big East show just how badly that second round was and the replacement for us who was allegedly superior in every single aspect.

Notre Dame - A big brand name but they're not fully in on A¢¢ football. Is this the opening needed to finally get them into the B1G?

The current A¢¢ TV contract runs through 2036 academic year.

There will be a new addition to the athletic department staff coming in the next week or so. UCF assistant athletics director Jon Brown will be joining the staff here at Maryland. He was involved in fundraising for their Terrapin Club, the ChargeOn fund. Don't have all the specifics, but I would assume he will be working with Brian Thornburg as I believe they crossed paths at Penn State.

Per one source the only player we lost that entered the Portal in the top 150 was Hart at #28. None of our 3 transfers in from the portal were rated in the top 150.

I am guessing he willbe taking 13th scholarship.

Interesting take to say the least.

Reading that, you'd think that we're about to "break through" but the bottom line, 6.5 wins.

Interesting stat they dig out though:

Offense rocks, team wins. Offense doesn’t rock, team loses. It’s just that simple. Maryland was able to slug past NC State to take the bowl game even thought O wasn’t great, but in the regular season it was 0-5 when failing to get more than 402 yards and 7-0 when it did. In 2021, the team was 7-0 when coming up with more than 451 yards, 0-6 when it didn’t.
