***Indiana B1G Tourney Game Thread***

We’re about 25 minutes from tip-off between the Terps and Hoosiers. An already late start is going to be even later thanks to PSU-NW going to OT.

Terps are wearing the black unis tonight.

Maryland obviously won the lone meeting between these teams in the regular season. In that game, Donta Scott and Jahmir Young led the way offensively, while the Terps held Hood-Schifino to just 3 points. Could use more of the same again tonight.

Very telling hoops team stats..

Inside the numbers:

Personal foul differential:
-4.8 fewer fouls called on Terps at home vs on road
-that is the 10th largest differential in entire nation

Summary: Terps can’t get a call on road (as we all here already knew lol…)

Offensive efficiency splits is an estimation of points scored per 100 possessions

Home - 116.9 points per 100 possessions
Road - 95.7 points per 100 possessions
Difference of 21.2 points per game home vs road, huge difference

(glaring home vs road splits, sort of like Colorado Rockies hitting/batting averages playing in thin air at home vs when on road away from Coors Field effect lol)

Free throw rate differential:
Home:
+18
Road
-15.77
Terps avg 1.8 more fta per 10 fga than opponents at home vs 1.577 fewer fta per 10 fga vs opponents on road

(again, not near as many fta’s outside of Xfinity, just proof of our suspicions on this board as many here have posted about getting zero calls in away B1G games…)

Willard: “I don’t know what guys have to do to deserve a foul on the road. That’s been a big part of our road problems is the free throw disparity has been crazy on the road.”

Good news is no more “true” road games left, neutral only but stats are a telling recap of our A+ home success vs F road success

Terps offer possible Lunsford replacement…

-Cam’Ron Johnson, 1st team All-AAC LG for Houston. 6-4, 305 joined portal yesterday and immediately received Terps offer
-1 sack allowed on 586 pass blocks last season according to PFF
-2 years of eligibility remaining
-Another reason for recent Terp coaching hires of Sumlin and Spavital was to increase the Terps brand and recruiting efforts in Texas with Sumlin having made coaching stops at Houston and Texas A&M and Spavital having coaching jobs at Houston, Texas Tech and Texas State including as Houston recruiting coordinator 2008-14. Here is their 1st chance…

The Terps will be looking for their third win of the season over Minnesota on Thursday night when the two teams take the court in Chicago. The Terps have dominated the Gophers in their two meetings this season, winning by an average margin of 26.5 points.

Minnesota is coming off of a 78-75 win over Nebraska on Wednesday night. The Gophers were led by sophomore forward Dawson Garcia who scored a team-high 18 points, pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds and also added six assists, a block and a steal.

For Maryland, the Terps will be looking to get senior forward Donta Scott back on track after he scored just a single point versus Penn State in the final game of the regular season. In fact, Scott has scored in single figures in 5 of the last 7 games.

“I don't think people give Donta enough credit, first, for what he does on the defensive end," said Maryland head coach Kevin Willard. "I think he's a little worn out and I need to give him a break every once in a while. He plays so darn hard, I think he's worn himself out when he gets to the offensive end. He just doesn't have as much in the tank as he did earlier. I just think I need to do a better job of getting him a little bit of a break every here and then. Again, I don't like not having him on the floor so again, that's a little bit my fault. Because I feel when he's out there he does good things even though he's struggling to score right now.”

Despite having won both meetings with Minnesota, the Terps are taking things one game at a time now that they are in the postseason and it is single-game elimination.
