Steve Goff of the Washington Post reported on his blog that several current Terps who have been considered pro prospect, decided not to enter the MLS Draft including "left back Taylor Kemp, center back London Woodberry, midfielder John Stertzer (14 goals) and forward Patrick Mullins (six)."

Goff also reported that there are several other schools that will lose top players. "Leaving the college ranks early to sign Generation Adidas contracts with MLS", he said "were UCSB forward Sam Garza, UCLA forward Chandler Hoffman, Akron forward Darren Mattocks, UCLA midfielder Kelyn Rowe and Duke midfielder-defender Andrew Wenger."

The overall effect of this is that while Maryland loses a top graduating senior forward in Casey Townsend, they are returning everyone else that has eligibility left while many key opponents are suffering early losses of talent and experience. That said, I also note that none of defending champion North Carolina's underclassmen are listed among those departing, so it will be the same old battles in the ACC, always a precursor to the national picture.

There's a rumour going around that the MLS is considering doing away with the Generation Addidas contracts to undergraduates. Some observers are saying this is putting some pressure on the undergrads to turn pro and lock in a GA contract to ensure that they're last year of college will be paid for.

Something to watch on this.
