***Michigan State Game Thread***

We're about 15 minutes from tipoff between the Terps and Sparty in East Lansing.

Obviously, these two teams have seen each other already and recently so we pretty much have an idea of what to expect. The big thing tonight is to do a better job in transition defense to start the game. If they had done a better job with transition defense to start the last game they might have won walking away.

That said, Breslin is one of the toughest places in the country to come away with a win.

Terps will be in the gold unis tonight.

2021 Rivals150 wing Benny Williams

St. Andrew's four-star wing Benny Williams has cut his list down to four: Maryland, Miami, Georgetown and Syracuse.

I want to tell you guys that Maryland is the team to beat here, but I think Cuse has the edge right now. Talked to a few sources on Williams the other day and all seemed to agree they think Cuse is currently in the drivers seat. But I do think this one is basically down to a Maryland-Cuse battle. Turgeon has basically made Wililams his No. 1 priority for 2021 and has headed his recruitment. Would be a huge win if they can land his commitment. Quick story at the link below.

Maryland looking for key road win in second meeting with Michigan State

The Terps relied on stingy second-half defense to claw their way back into the first meeting with the Spartans and hope that having seen their speed with which they push the ball into the front court helps their transition defense in the second meeting, while the improved play of Donta Scott on both ends has the Terps looking much better of late. Brown-Tuner has scored 20 or more points in each of her last four games, the first Terp to achieve that since Brionna Jones from March 4-19, 2017.

Bri McDaniel (15), Faith Masonius (11), Lavender Briggs (10), and Brinae Alexander (10) comprised the other double-digit factors for the Terps. It's the first time Maryland had five scorers with 10 or more in a Big Ten game since Jan. 7, 2023 against Michigan State.

Maryland (12-9, 4-6 B1G) was without Shyanne Sellers, the team's leader in points, rebounds, assists and blocks, who did not play in Wednesday's contest. The Terps struggled without Sellers' presence as the lead ball handler and facilitator.

The Terps briefly sparked a 13-2 run in the third quarter to cut the deficit. They made nine straight shots from the floor and outscored the Hoosiers 29-16 during the quarter to make it 68-59 heading to the fourth.

Wednesday's game was Barbie-themed where the Terps wore pink uniforms. Fans also wore pink and several Barbie-themed events took place throughout the game.

Indiana (18-2, 9-1 B1G) was led by Mackenzie Holmes and Sara Scalia, who combined for 45 points. Holmes also recorded 10 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. • Indiana responded with a 10-0 run of its own. It was enough to retake a comfortable lead and the Hoosiers walked away with the win.
Frese's Take
"I was proud of our third quarter, our second half. I liked the response out of the locker room," head coach Brenda Frese said. "I thought it said a lot. That second half we outscored them 43 to 35. Took us too long obviously, in the first half I think the patience of losing Shy and turning around after Penn State and having one practice to insert Bri at the point and our rotations. That all has an impact when you lose a player like Shy."

From The Girls
"I think that first half was just on us. I think it was more about our energy and our effort, which is something that we try to pride ourselves with," Brinae Alexander said. "I think we're still trying to figure out what specifically it is with our starts but it's something that we definitely want to lock in more because we know we need to start better."

Double-Figure Factors
