SYRACUSE, NY – George Stamos scored in overtime to lift No. 4 Maryland to a dramatic 13-12 win at No. 5 Syracuse on Saturday at JMA Wireless Dome. It was the Terps' second overtime victory of the season.The game was tied seven times -- six in the second half -- before Stamos scored the game-winner for the Terps (3-0).

Braden Erksa led the Terps (3-0) with four goals and an assist for five points. Jack Koras tallied three goals and an assist for four points. Daniel Maltz added two goals. Eric Spanos gave the Terps a 12-11 lead with 3:55 left before Syracuse tied the game with 1:05 left in regulation. Ryan Siracusa and Owen Murphy also scored for the Terps.

The Terps scored five goals in each of the first and fourth quarters.

The Terps defense was strong throughout the game, notably, Ajax Zappitello held Joey Spallina, the nation's leading scorer (26 points entering the game) to one goal and two assists. Maryland had a span of 20:44 in the first half of holding the Orange scoreless.

In the goal, Logan McNaney made 14 saves for Maryland.

Faceoff specialist Luke Wierman added to his all-time program record of face-off wins with 16 wins Saturday. Wiermanalso picked up a game-high nine groundballs and is closing in on second in that category in the Maryland record books.

Breaking Down The Action

• Five different Terps scored goals in the opening quarter. Three of the goals were unanswered from Jack Koras, Daniel Maltz and Ryan Siracusa in less than two minutes. Maryland's defense held Syracuse to two goals on eight shot attempts.
• Syracuse notched two goals in the second quarter. The Terps led 5-4 at the half. Maryland held the Orange scoreless for over 20 minutes spanning between the first and second quarters.
• The Terps got goals from Erksa and Koras in the third period, but Syracuse found the back of the net four times to take an 8-7 lead heading into the final 15 minutes.
• The two teams traded goals for much of the fourth quarter, with Eric Spanos breaking an 11-11 tie late, but Christian Mule tied the game to go to overtime.
• George Stamos scored the game-winning goal on an assist by Colin Sharkey.

Hat Trick Terps

• Maryland has recorded a hat trick in 74 of its last 76 games dating to Feb. 2, 2019. This includes a remarkable streak of 67 straight games with a hat trick through the late 2023 season.
• Braden Erksa posted a hat trick with four goals on Saturday. It was his sixth hat trick of his career.
• Jack Koras also recorded a hat trick. It was also the sixth of his career.

Multi Terps Update

• Braden Erksa (four goals and one assist) had his 16th multi-point game in his two years as a Terp. It was his 10th career game with multiple goals.
• Jack Koras (three goals and one assist) recorded his 15th multi-point game of his career. It was also his 10th game scoring multiple goals.
• Daniel Maltz (two goals) had the 37th multi-point game of his career. It was Maltz's 26th career game with multiple goals.
• Eric Spanos (one goal and one assist) had his seventh multi-point game of his career.

Terps In The Record Books

• Luke Wierman became the program's all-time faceoff winner in the Terps' season opener. With 16 wins today, he has 683 in his career.
• Wierman is also climbing up the career groundballs list and is one of only three Terps in history to scoop up 300 or more. He picked up nine today and has 365 in his career. Wierman needs 17 to pass Brian Haggerty (1996-99) for second all-time.
• Logan McNaney is sixth on the all-time saves list. With 14 in the game, he now has 445 for his career. He is also 29 from passing Brian Phipps (2007-2010) and 55 saves away from becoming just the fourth Terp ever to eclipse 500 career saves.

Score 10 And Win

• Since John Tillman took over the program in 2011, Maryland has won 154 of the 174 games in which it has scored 10 or more goals.
• Maryland went 10-2 in 2023 when scoring 10 or more goals with wins over Richmond, Syracuse, Princeton, Albany, Virginia, Penn State, Ohio State, twice over Rutgers, and at Johns Hopkins.
• Maryland is also 115-17 since 2015 when scoring at least 10 goals

Series History

• Maryland holds a 14-6 record against the Orange and is 6-0 since John Tillman took over the Terrapin program in 2011.
• This was just the fifth regular-season meeting between the two national powers since the NCAA era began in 1971.

it was my Senior year no High School and my Science Fair project made it all the way to the Regional Championships. It was held at Cole Field House. Between seeing judges, I went to get some water. On my way back to my exhibit, lo and behold, here came Lefty. He was checking out some of the Science projects. I said hello and asked him if he would like me to tell him about my project. He said yes, so I gave him my pitch. While I was explaining it, my scheduled judges came up. When I finished, he turned to the judges and said, “I understood everything this boy said, and I don’t know much about science, so if he can explain it that good, he must know something. “ He told them I should win. I then told him I would be coming to Maryland in the Fall. He asked ,” Can you play some ball?” My answer was no, so he said he expected to see me in the stands. And he did. When I saw him several times in the future, he always called me the Science Wiz, and told me I should become a teacher. I did become a teacher and still teach to this day. He was always funny and made me laugh. I was truly saddened when he was forced to step down when Lennie died. He was such a wonderful man. He will be truly missed. And someday when it is my time to shuffle off this mortal coil, I have no doubt when I see him up there, he will yell once more, “Hey, Science Wiz!” And I will answer back, “Coach.”

Let the Matt Swope era begin! He was 6 months old when I started dating my wife, who lived directly across the street from the Swope family. I remember him as a toddler. His family then moved to New Carrollton.

With the revolving door that has become the Baseball Head Coaching position at Maryland, I'm hoping he brings success and stability.

Back when Maravich played, stats were not compiled for freshmen. A distance shooter, he played his entire career, both college and NBA, with no three point line. It was invented just in time for his final season in the pros. He put up 3,667 points in only three years, two by two.Mar 2, 2023

Called “You are looking live…” a 1-hour documentary type show on the history of the NFL Today - Brent, Greek, Jayne, Phyllis and Irv - which aired Sunday on CBS before the Super Bowl and was done by NFL Films and was well received. I have not seen it but I was a huge watcher and fan of the show. It is being replayed on CBSSN Fri night at 6:00 pm and Sun at 5:00 pm so recommend setting the dvr. Btw an effort is underway by Dan Patrick to have Brent inducted into Pro Football HOF as a contributor - agree or disagree?

Young, Kaiser, DHS, Scott and Reese, I think, were on the court together when the Terps rallied to beat Iowa. That's the lineup I anticipated seeing last fall. Could they finally play together to close out the season? If so. they're undefeated in mid-February.

Not surprising to see Holtmann fired given how bad OSU has been of late. But a bit surprising they would do it now instead of waiting until the season ends. Obviously, the hope is they will have a leg up on landing their guy. Will be interesting to see the names associated with this job.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland will send four players to the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, which will run February 26 through March 4at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Offensive lineman Gottlieb Ayedze, defensive back Beau Brade, offensive lineman Delmar Glaze and defensive back Tarheeb Still have been invited to represent the Terps in Indy.

Maryland has now sent 11 players to the NFL Scouting Combine in the last two years with five Terps being drafted in 2023. The four Maryland players going to the combine in 2024 is tied for the fifth most amongst all Big Ten schools.

2024 NFL Scouting Combine On-Field Workout Schedule:

· Thursday, February 29 – Defensive Linemen, Linebackers

· Friday, March 1 – Defensive Backs, Tight Ends

Ayedze saw action in 11 games for the Terps at right tackle this past season, starting his final 10 games played. He blocked for the fourth-ranked overall offense in the Big Ten (387.3 ypg) and the top-ranked passing offense (278.9 passing ypg). Ayedze was the sixth-highest rated pass blocking tackle in the Big Ten (over 500 snaps) with a 76.5 grade via Pro Football Focus.

Brade started all 12 games he played during his senior season in 2023 and led the Terrapins in tackles for the second straight season with 75 total and 48 solo. He also registered four tackles for loss, six pass breakups, one interception and a forced fumble. Brade led the Terps in tackles in six of his 12 games played, including double-digit tackles at Michigan State and against No. 2 Michigan. Brade was named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten in each of the last two seasons, and he was voted by his teammates as one of the team captains at the conclusion of the regular season.

Glaze started every game at left tackle for the Terps in 2023, anchoring an offensive line that blocked for the fourth-ranked overall offense in the Big Ten (387.3 ypg) and the top-ranked passing offense (278.9 passing ypg) in the league. Glaze is the second-rated pass blocking tackle in the Big Ten via Pro Football Focus with an 83.1 grade and the fourth-rated tackle overall (over 750 snaps). Glaze was named Third Team All-Big ten at the conclusion of the regular season.

Still, a 2023 Second Team All-Big Ten selection, ranked tied for third nationally in interceptions per game (0.5) and tied for sixth nationally in total interceptions (5). The senior had a pair of interceptions in each of Maryland's wins over Virginia and Nebraska, making him one of only three FBS players to have two games with two interceptions. Still was named the Jim Thorpe National Defensive Back of the Week and the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after his two-interception performance at Nebraska.

Comes from a great program in St. Joe’s and has good size at 6-foot-4, 317 lbs. Projects as more of a guard, right tackle.
