3-Point Stuff

Of 352 Div I schools we rank 326th in 3-pt% at 30.38%. Fairfield sits at 352nd with 26.49% and Utah State sits at #1 with a 41.12%. Here are the Big Ten teams and their rankings:

11. Penn State 38.71%
18. Indiana 38.12
32. MSU 37.30
55. OSU 36.61
73. Wisc. 36.16
145. Iowa. 34.92
148. Michigan. 34.89
186. Purdue. 34.07
279. NW. 32.11
284. Rutgers. 31.93
291 Nebraska 31.70
299 Illinois. 31.52
326. MD. 30.38
333. Min. 30.0

The Big Ten teams have attempted 7,329 3-pt shots …. Making 2,506 of them for an average of 34.19%. If you go back through all of our schedule this year and apply the league average 3-pt % to our three point shots taken for each game, all of our wins remain wins and 3 ( Tenn, @ Purdue, @ MSU) of our 8 losses become wins putting us at a hypothetical 20-5, highly ranked and on an 8-game win streak heading into Purdue on Thursday. We shot the 3 pointer so poorly in those 3 games that if we had even shot our 326th ranked 30% average (or even 25%) during those games we would have won all 3 contests as well.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda…..

Terps to host #1 Purdue Thursday, games vs them have been ridiculously close recently…

Overall Terps just 3-8 in last 11 vs Purdue BUT have won last 3 vs Purdue at Xfinity

and are the…

Only B1G team without a HOME loss this season (7-0)

And…

have program record 10 straight HOME B1G wins dating to last season

Terps last 4 losses to Purdue by combined 9 points (avg loss by 2.3 points) and last 8 losses to Purdue by 27 points (avg loss by 3.4 points)

St. John's PG Daquan Davis

St. John's 2024 PG Daquan Davis expected at tomorrow's game versus Penn State. This will be the second straight game he's been to. He had a really nice outing the other night versus Gonzaga in a big WCAC win with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. He picked up an Illinois offer earlier this evening.

Right now, I think he's the Terps' to lose and I've long thought they would push and he was likely to be a part of this class. They need a consistent ball handler that can shoot it and he absolutely fits the bill.

Terps men’s basketball “secret sauce” has been…

Getting to the foul line and making their FT’s which has been a key winning factor during their recent 3-0 B1G homestand and a big reason why the team is undefeated at 6-0 at home in B1G play.

MD at home this season vs B1G:
Maryland
114 fts
137 fta
83%

Opponents
52 fts
69 fta
75%

Terps are just 1 fta shy of double the attempts of opponents (137 vs 69) and converting at 8% higher rate (83% vs 75%) than opponents

Of course it also coincides with Jahmir Young stepping up big time over the last 7 games too which included B1G home wins vs OSU, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Indiana among 5 of his last 7 games.

Young last 7 games:
20.9 ppg
6.1 rpg
3.6 apg
2.1 spg
44-50 fts, 88%

Season FTs
Carey 90%, 28-31
Young 83%, 90-109
Hart 83%, 57-69
Scott 77%, 36-47
Martinez 76%, 29-38
———————————
Cornish 83%, 5-6

Terps are T-4th among 14 B1G teams in FT% at 74% for season (all games not just B1G play) and 81st in nation (73.96%) out of 352 teams, not quite top 20% in nation (23%)

Maryland basketball looks to bounce back at home versus Penn State

After having a four-game win streak snapped earlier in the week at Michigan State, the Terps will look to start a new winning streak and remain undefeated at home in league play Saturday afternoon when they host Penn State. After facing some of the nation's top big men, they will face one the nation's top guards in Jalen Pickett. The key to beating Penn State will likely come down to defending the three, something Maryland has been very good at this season but struggled with at Michigan State. My choices for the MOST ready women to be pro's in the B1G, please chime in

Caitlyn Clark, Diamond Miller, Grace Berger (who should of gone pro last year), MacKenzie Holmes, Leigha Brown. I know I may have missed one of two BUT geez Indiana has two pro's on their team right now. Berger is so smart a player and I love her game. Diamond's game reminds me of AT but she has a jump shot. Tell you what put those five on the floor and they will do some damage.

#1 Montverde (Queen) wins tonight at IMG (Kaiser)…

62-52. IMG led 17-5 after 1st qtr and 23-18 at half but Montverde put up 20 in the 3rd to lead 38-37 heading into 4th and won the 4th 24-15 and the second half 44-29 to get the win. Another Terp target at IMG, ‘24 Khani Rooths, had 2 really nice jams back-to-back - 1 on an oop and the other off a drive - he had 3 dunks in the game total. Queen was chosen player of the game on the telecast thanks to a big 2nd half with at least 3 buckets in the paint while the only Kaiser highlight I saw in nearly 13 minutes of highlights was him hitting a corner 3 for IMG.
