Michigan State game to air on NBC

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland-Michigan State football game, set to be played in East Lansing on September 23, will be broadcast on NBC, it was announced during NBC’s B1G College Countdown pregame show prior to the Terrapins game against Charlotte last night.

The game time, which was previously announced, is 3:30 p.m. and it'll be the Big Ten opener for both teams.

The Terps defeated the Spartans in College Park last season, 27-13, behind big games from quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa and running back Antwain Littleton II. Tagovailoa completed 32-of-41 passes for 314 yards and a score, while Littleton rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown.

Maryland (2-0) welcomes Virginia to SECU Stadium this coming Friday for its non-conference finale. The Terps and Cavaliers will kickoff at 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on FS1 and the Maryland Sports Radio Network.

Interesting former Good Counsel and Ped State OL retires from football

Langdon Tengwall who was a high 4 star stud OL at Good Counsel and did not as far as I know, give us much of a sniff, who also started as a freshman at Penn State until he was injured midway through 2022 season, has retired from football. Due to an undisclosed injury will not allow him to play safely according to his announcement.

Papa Kante…

I’ve heard that Papa Kante could possibly be back in play for Maryland should Hunter Dickinson fall through, after Kante asked out of his NLI with Michigan today.

The reason for the decommitment apparently has to do with academics, specifically his ESL testing. So while it seems things didn’t work out at Michigan, he could still attend another Big Ten school if he can get the ESL stuff taken care of.

Obviously Hunter Dickinson is at the top of the Terps’ wish list, but Kante would give them a true rim protector with a college ready body should Dickinson end up elsewhere.

It sounds like Pitt will be a major player as well. He originally took an official visit to Maryland before committing to Michigan and chose them over the Terps and Pitt. Michigan State could also possibly get involved, while it still sounds like it likely won’t be Rutgers despite the fact he’s tight with Gavin Griffins.

Throwback Thursday: Looking back at Maryland and Charlotte starters as recruits

Always a fun exercise, Throwback Thursday is back for another season, where we compare each team's starters as high school (or in some cases college) recruits.

Despite having quite a few former Terps on the roster, only Ja'Khi Green and Isaiah Hazel starter for Poggi's squad.

The two areas where Charlotte definitely have some real talent are along the d-line and in their secondary. Anoma is a major talent and was a real force last season at times for Michigan when he was on the field. And in the secondary, they bring in some guys with P5 experience and return a couple of starters.

But where they are really going to struggle is along the o-line, where they are playing guys with basically little to no experience, even those coming from lower levels. Ja'Khi Green might be their best o-lineman and he was basically unable to get on the field at Maryland. They do have some depth at RB though, similar to Maryland.

East Coast Spotlight: Commitment predictions for top prospects

From Adam Friedman, a look at some of the top uncommitted prospects on the east coast (and in the DMV) and where they could be headed.

Interesting to see he predicts Flowers D-lineman Herb Gray to Maryland. His recruitment has been extremely quiet of late.

I'll say this, I don't see both Willor and Harvey ending up at Penn State. And have heard as much from people pretty plugged in that it is unlikely to happen.

Harvey still seems to be all over the place, going back and forth between the Terps, PSU and now USC. I can safely say there are people in his camp that want him close to home, but really can't say where he is leaning as far as a final decision goes.

As for Willor, I still think Maryland getting him on campus Week 1 and his being back in Baltimore really favors the Terps. More at the link below.

Snap Counts & PFF Grades: Towson

While I think I was the only one doing snap counts and PFF grades the past few seasons, it seems everyone is now doing them. With that said, I'll try to get this feature up quicker the rest of the season. I also try to give you the best breakdown of the team's snap counts as well as PFF grades with breakdown of snaps by run/pass play as well as run/pass grades for the top players.

Here are a few takeaways before you click on the link:

- I was pretty surprised to see Amelio Moran grade out as one of the top 5 players on offense. His starting spot at RG seemed shakiest of the starters heading into the season.

- While he didn't have enough snaps for me to have him as the top graded player from Saturday, QB Cam Edge had a PFF grade of 92.6 and looked good throwing the ball. Was a lot of buzz that he was really pushing Edwards all throughout camp and it will be interesting to see if he can pass him this season.

- Was a bit surprised to see Tai Felton with the most WR snaps considering he had a huge drop that should have been a touchdown.

- While Mike Purcell got the start, it was Aric Harris would got the majority of the snaps at center versus Towson. Would not be surprised if we see Harris as the starter versus Charlotte.

- It was Rico Walker and not Preston Howard who had the second most snaps among the TE. I still think it is possible he ends up seeing the bulk of the snaps as the No. 2 blocking TE this season.

- Not surprising was DJ Glaze grading out in the top 5 at LT. He said it is his preferred position and he seemed comfortable there on Saturday.

- On defense, it was DL Isaac Bunyun who would have topped the group with the highest PFF grade but he just missed taking 25% of the snaps. Still, he played pretty well Saturday.

- Freshman Alex Moore took 31 snaps at CB and graded out pretty well.
