3 games into the MBB season, with 1 lackluster win at home, and 2 ugly losses in Asheville, and the chatter starts about Williard = Turge, Williard is throwing in the towell (after 3 frigging games), Williard has 1 foot out the door to Louisville, etc.

There were some commentators who suggested that the Terp fan base was delusional for thinking Turge sucked, and for running him out of here. 1st off, I never thought the fans ran him out. More like he tucked tail and ran. And where is he now? Calling games for mid majors and collecting his severance pay. Somehow I don't get the sense that Williard is wired that way.

#1 problem right now is lack of shooters. Kaiser and Batchelor both came in with reps as 3 pt shooters. To date Kaiser can't hit the broad side of a barn, and Batchelor has been only marginally better. You have to believe that this will sort itself out. Would also be nice if we could get the FT percentage up. Gotta be worth at least 3 pts a game to Juju's average if he improved there.

We have the talent. It will mesh. Do we have the heart? I believe Williard does. If he folds this quickly into his tenure, then he fooled an awful lot of people.

So I recently stumbled on to a rumor that Indiana is telling Queen that Willard is gone to Louisville next year. Is there any there...there?

Maybe baseball will make us feel better. Perhaps lacrosse. The Terps can be a labaseball school. At least the football team has a winning record!

And Villanova loses to Penn at the Palestra. I know Big 5 games can be unpredictable, but that’s not a great loss for Nova.

Hart basically did nothing and TJ Bamba struggled shooting the three.

Will be interesting to see how both of these teams respond Friday coming off losses.

Per Willard we lost Hart and Martinez due to NIL. If we had both we would be 3-0 not 1-2. We took a large chunk of next year's NIL for Queen who now appears to be waiting and/or looking elsewhere. This caused us to lose Hodge. My point: when you have limited NIL as MD does it is difficult, if not impossible, to manage it, use it wisely and get the best results out of it.

Queen will not sign in the early period, according to a report from 24/7's Travis Branham.

This is not a positive development at all. Heard from the staff before they headed down to Asheville yesterday that they still felt good and that it was between them and Indiana and they were fairly sure Kansas was not in play despite some rumors to the contrary. They also seemed confident he would sign before the end of the early period next Wednesday.

I can also confidently say that Montverde head coach Kevin Boyle was hoping that all of his seniors would have their recruitments out of the way before the start of the season. But it appears that will not be the case now.

Honestly not sure where this recruitment goes from here after this development.

ASHEVILLE, NC – Maryland lost its second game of the Asheville Championship, as UAB beat the Terps, 66-63, at the Harrah's Cherokee Center on Sunday afternoon.

Jahmir Young had an all-around day with 14 points, six rebounds and six assists.

Donta Scott scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Deshawn Harris-Smith also scored 13 and had six boards.

Down by as many as 12 points in the second half with 7:39 minutes left in regulation, the Terps rallied to cut their deficit to four at 59-55 with 4:49 left in a Harris-Smith layup. Maryland got within two twice in the final minutes and Harris-Smith's three-pointer at the buzzer was blocked.

Maryland and UAB are both 1-2 on the season.

Eric Gaines led the Blazers with 20 points.

Breaking Down The Action

• The Terps used an 11-0 run in the first half to break open a back-and-forth start building out a 21-12 lead at the 8:06 mark. Caelum Swanton-Rodgerand Jordan Geronimo had dunks during the spurt.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Sophomore kicker Jack Howes and senior defensive back Tarheeb Still were recognized by the Big Ten Conference on Monday after their standout performances in Maryland’s 13-10 win at Nebraska on Saturday.

Howes has been named the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week, while Still earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.

Howes drilled a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter against the Cornhuskers, including the game-winner from 24-yards out as time expired. It marked Maryland's first walk-off win since beating Illinois on Sept. 17, 2021. Howes also connected on a 35-yard field goal to tie the game with 12:42 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Still led a Terps defense that allowed just 10 points and forced five Nebraska turnovers. The senior had a team-high seven tackles and two interceptions in the win. With the game tied and less than 4 minutes remaining, Still intercepted a Nebraska pass in the endzone on third-and-goal and returned it 19 yards to set up Maryland's game-winning drive.

Still is now tied for the Big Ten lead and ranks tied for second in the nation with five interceptions this season. The senior is one of only three players in the FBS to have two or more interceptions in multiple games in 2023.

The last Maryland player to be named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week was Chad Ryland on Nov. 29, 2022. Tre Watson was the last Terp to garner Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors, claiming the award on Sept. 24, 2018.

I take a look at the latest bowl projections with the Terps now bowl eligible. Some compelling matchups are predicted, although these will likely continue to change as the season comes to a close.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland-Rutgers football game, set to be played at SHI Stadium on November 25, will kickoff at 3:30 p.m. and be broadcast on Big Ten Network, it was announced on Monday. It will be the regular season finale for both bowl eligible teams.

Maryland (6-4, 3-4 Big Ten) is coming off a 13-10 win at Nebraska on Saturday, while Rutgers (6-4, 3-4 Big Ten) dropped its last game at Iowa, 22-0.

The Terrapins have won four of the last five match-ups in the series against the Scarlet Knights, including a 37-0 victory at SECU Stadium last season.

So game two is in the books, and as everyone knows, Maryland blows. Just a few bullet points so I can get to the Asheville cookie shop.

1) Maryland does nothing with any sense of urgency.
2) The Terps have NO shooting threat.
3) Willard completely abandoned the inside game even when it worked the first minutes of the game.
4) The offense stood still in the 2nd half. No movement.
5) The team lacks cohesion and seems lost on the court more often than not.
6) Kaiser has his ups and downs, and while he’s not ready for prime time, he’s the Terps best player.
7) If this were a video game, I’d trade Scott and Geronimo for a 2nd round pick.
8) The Terps need to learn how to break the press with more urgency and an eye on getting immediate points.
9) Willard needs to act like he cares.

We’re about 20 minutes from tip-off between the Terps and UAB in the consolation game of the Asheville Championship tournament.

Obviously, Friday night did not go as one would have hoped as defensive lapses and poor three-point shooting led to a close loss.

UAB is winless, but they have been in both game right to the end, including an OT loss to Bradley to open the season and a 1-point loss to Clemson on Friday night. They have some size and talent with a handful of SEC transfers, so they won’t be a pushover. Will likely have to play much better if they want to win this afternoon.

Starts by saying he's proud of this team and the way they fought despite not a lot going their way the last four weeks. Offense made plays when they needed to make plays at the end and the defense continued to create takeaways and get the offense the ball back. Now they have the opportunity to shift the focus onto next week's home game vs. Michigan. And happy with the play of Howes who hit the walk-off game winner.

Says nothing has been easy for the Terps and that's why he's proud of this team. They could have easily gotten down and given up but they didn't and the defense kept hyping up the offense on the sideline and telling them they'd get them the ball back so was good to see.

You can't put a price on how valuable making a bowl game is and the extra time they will have to practice and what it means for the program to play in a bowl game for a 3rd straight season.

Says he won't get into the negativity of the 10 penalties and the circumstances, wants to focus on the 6th win and says they turn some of the plays into the league office each week and will do that again.

Says the team was excited about getting that sixth win and becoming bowl eligible. They know winning on the road is hard and they need to continue to work on things, but this was a big win.

Says they were able to wear them down in the 4th quarter and Hemby made some big plays on that final drive. Says they had a gameplan where they wanted to get the ball quickly out of Lia's hands and that helped wear down the Nebraska defense late.

Anytime you get 5 turnovers in a game and win the turnover battle and the explosive plays that is a winning formula for them. But they'll watch the tape and start to make the necessary adjustments leading up to Michigan.

Says the team's success on defense has been key to this team's success as the offense kind of piggybacks off of their success.

Says anyone who watches knows they have the ability to make explosive plays with their speed and playmakers so it was good to finally finish a drive and have Felton catch those two balls that led to the first TD of the game.
