Maryland Football Recruiting Scoop: Transfer portal action about to heat up again

The transfer portal officially closes on Saturday, meaning players can't enter again until the April portal window. But there are plenty of uncommitted transfers in the portal, and Maryland football isn't done adding them.

After adding eight transfers (details in the Maryland football transfer portal tracker), Mike Locksley and company took some time to regroup and work on the next wave. Multiple sources said Maryland expects to add another wave of transfers this week. Who they'll be is the million-dollar question.

Two guys I've been keeping close tabs on: former Central Connecticut State offensive tackle Rahtrell Perry (pictured) and former Tennessee safety Christian Harrison.

Harrison is likely a top target because Maryland needs help at safety after the graduation of one of their best players, Dante Trader, along with promising former four-star Brandon Jacobs' transfer. Arkansas State transfer Dontay Joyner looks like an underrated get, but he won't be able to play safety in the Big Ten at 175 pounds. He'll slide to cornerback, giving Maryland an upgrade along with Wake Forest transfer Jamare Glasker.

Perry's situation is unclear. He recently took a trip to Florida State and previously visited Maryland, Ohio State, Pittsburgh and Syracuse. Via 247Sports' Chris Nee:

The 6-foot-5, 305-pound offensive tackle started all 13 games at left tackle this past season. Perry played 900 snaps at left tackle last season. He played 958 total snaps on the season. Perry didn't allow a sack in two games against FBS competition this year — UMass and Central Michigan — and emerged as one of the more intriguing offensive tackles on the FCS level.
Perry is one of the more highly sought offensive linemen in the portal and is sure to command a high price. But Maryland desperately needs to improve the front five.

Sascha Garcia is an intriguing new name. The William and Mary defensive back, an FCS freshman all-American, entered the portal a few days ago and has picked up offers from Maryland, Wisconsin, Cincinnati and others. A native of Clinton, Md., he was overlooked by Power Conference schools as a senior at Potomac High (Md.). An interesting note: he was Glasker's teammate at Potomac and shared Glasker's Maryland commitment post.

Maryland was also involved with former Indiana and FAU defensive back Phillip Dunnam, but he committed to UCF on Christmas day. The Golden Knights have become a bit of a nuisance for Maryland, also landing a couple of former highly regarded Terps signees from Florida, Dylan Wade and Brandon Jacob. And there was talk they could make a move on promising linebacker Michael Harris, whose twin brother plays there, but that didn't materialize.

Stay tuned. It could be an action-packed week.
