We’re about 20 minutes from tip-off between the Terps and Badgers in Minny.

Maryland coming off an impressive win last night, but a quick turnaround, no Jahari Long and a tougher opponent will make this afternoon’s game likely a much bigger challenge.

Will be interested in seeing if Kaiser can keep the momentum going this afternoon.

Several observations:

1. Goaltending. Logan is not the goalie he was 2 years ago, and it clearly show in his lack of mobility during clears. Also, he does not seem to be picking up the ball as quickly as he did. This could also be caused by the defense which is certainly playing at a lackluster level. Too many clear shots on goal.

2. Turnovers. WE always seem to be in a hurry on offense, and as a result commit too many turnovers. 16 today and against a team like Virginia that is way too many.

3. Once again we looked disorganized on clears. The 10-man ride is causing problems.

4. Virginia consistently double teamed on defense and the Terps do not have the talent to make them pay.

5. In the offense zone it always looked like we were bunched up in front of the goal, they need better spacing.

6. for the last 2 games defenses have concentrated on taking Erksa out of his game and no one is picking up the slack.

7. Today was one of the few times we did not win the ground ball battle. UVA seemed to be more physical.


On the plus side it was a beautiful day, and I got to spend time with the grandsons.

I think he also was the acting HC for their bowl game as they're HC left for IU.

How about St. Joe’s upsetting regular season champ Richmond this afternoon in the A10 tourney in Brooklyn?

Erik Reynolds, who’s been mentioned here as a possibility to enter the portal, comes back from an off night against Mason to finish with a game-high 30 points this afternoon.

Literally sitting here watching Deion on The Today Show as I type this and see on my TweetDeck that Malik Washington has just picked up an offer from Colorado. Like literally as Prime is on national TV. Gotta hand it to the guy, he definitely knows how to make a big first impression.

All of that said, still like the Terps with this one.

FWIW, a CBS Sports article on candidates to fill the vacancy listed nine alternatives, but not Kevin Willard.

In the January 29th AP poll, Wiscy came in at #6 overall at 16-4, 8-1 B1G. Since then they have cratered, finishing the season 3-8 with losses at Michigan, at Rutgers, at Indiana and at Nebraska among others for a final record of 19-12, 11-9 B1G. However, 2 of the 8 losses were to Purdue by just a combined 14 points. The 3 wins were all at home - vs Rutgers, vs Ohio State and vs our Terps by 4, 74-70. In the prior meeting vs MD, UW led for 35:35, the Terps for just 2:43. UW won the boards 33-24. MD was able to run some and totaled 13 fastbreak points to just 3 for UW. However, Jahmir was held to just 6-17 fgs. Reese was most productive Terp with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks. However he needs to stay out of foul trouble (when have we said that before? lol) vs their 2 bigs Tyler Wahl (6-9) and Steven Crowl (7-0). Wahl had 18 points and 6 rebounds on 6-9 fgs in the 1st meeting and drew 5 fouls on Terps defenders. Terps fouled a bunch late in game but Wiscy held them off by making 11-12 fts in last 42 seconds of game to seal the 74-70 win, finishing 28-31 fts for the game. Freshman guard John Blackwell has been playing well for Badgers coming into today - tied career-high with 18 points vs Purdue in last game - and is averaging 17.5 ppg in last 2 games, impressive player. Wiscy is favored today by 3 1/2 and TV is BTN, Brandon Gaudin and Stephen Bardo on call with Rick Pizzo on sideline.

As I alluded to a week or so ago, anyone who was even mentioning Nolan Smith as a possibility to join Willard’s staff should not be allowed to get anywhere near the Maryland program.

Wow. Long trip to take on the University of Portland.

We're about 15 minutes from tipoff between the Terps and Scarlet Knights in Minny.

Julian Reese is listed as a starter for tonight's game. It will be interesting to see how he plays after sitting out the regular season finale.

Rutgers is a winnable game for this group. Already beat them away from home pretty handily just a couple of weeks back.

Game can be streamed on Peacock.

Not assuming a win, but I'll follow on radio.

Peacock will televise the BT tournament games on Wednesday. If you didn't want to watch the game with Rutgers but felt guilty about skipping it, that's good news. If you were going to watch, then I guess it's bad news. By the way, BTN has the Thursday and Friday games.
