More good football recruiting news coming?

The Terps now appear to be the leaders for Texas O-lineman Samir Camacho. For those that need a refresher, he was initially supposed to take his first official visit to Cal (where Spavital's brother is OC). But he ended up cancelling that trip and making the trek to College Park instead the weekend of June 9. Spavital had recruited Camacho while he was at Texas State, so there was already a connection there. He took subsequent visits to Duke and UTSA to finish out the month of June, but it now appears the Terps left a strong enough impression to land a commitment. Should the Terps land Howerton and Camacho, that will be 7 o-linemen in this cycle, but it is definitely warranted given all the attrition at the position this offseason. He is expected to make an announcement at the end of August. Another lineman that isn't currently rated, but I like the approach the staff has taken at o-line this cycle. Going after smart, under-the-radar guys that are tough, athletic and have good footwork. And in the case of Camacho, he's got a really solid offer list that includes schools like Arizona St., Duke, Houston, Purdue, TCU, Texas A&M and Utah.

On Derik Queen...

I'm guessing this is already out there, but I received a text from a source yesterday morning that Queen will take late summer/fall visits to Georgetown, Houston, LSU and Kansas. He is also expected to visit Maryland and Indiana again (remember, you can now take junior AND senior year official visits) with a likely fall commitment.

FWIW, I still think he is Maryland's to lose. While Skinn was still on staff this one felt basically wrapped up. With that said, you look at that list with G'town, LSU and Kansas and the bottom line is, NIL likely has to be in line with what those other schools are offering in order to remain the team to beat. There are a number of reasons for Maryland to step up to the plate here and make sure this one gets done, and at the end of the day, I feel they most likely will.

On the court, Queen has dominated over the past month, as he was named one of 11 NBPA Top 100 All-Stars (along with fellow Terps target Khani Rooths). He also scored 20-plus in all but one game this past week at the UA Finals and had a double-double in the one game where he did not score 20 or more. Goes without saying that Willard was front and center at UA Finals watching Queen, while other coaches were at Peach Jam or Adidas. They are all-in and moves like that should pay off at the end.

Maryland announces upgraded lighting to SECU Stadium

COLLEGE PARK, MD – University of Maryland Athletics will unveil a new state-of-the-art LED lighting system at SECU Stadium this season.
Provided by Musco Lighting, the custom-designed Total Light Control—TLC for LED™ system will provide clean, elevated light levels on the field, and is equipped with color-changing lights and a variety of Show-Light Pro Venue® special effects features.

"As we continue to invest in our facilities and athletic programs at Maryland, we are excited to introduce a new, state-of-the-art lighting system at SECU Stadium debuting this fall for Terp football," said Damon Evans, Barry P. Gossett Director of Athletics. "These lights will enhance the entire game experience including increased visibility for the players and fans alike along with energizing special effects technology for our games."

Choreographed LED lighting sequences will be added to key moments during home games at SECU Stadium. These moments will include the team's intro sequence prior to kickoff, key in-game situations (i.e. Maryland touchdowns, defensive takeaways, etc.), and in conjunction with other special elements during commercial timeouts.
Maryland Athletics has developed a deep relationship with Musco, which previously provided lighting solutions for Maryland Softball Stadium, Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium, the XFINITY Center and Ludwig Field.

The Terps, who are coming off back-to-back winning seasons, will play their first three games of the 2023 season at home. Maryland will welcome Towson to SECU Stadium on September 2 for a 3:30 p.m. kick on Big Ten Network. The new lighting system will then be prominently featured the following two weeks as the Terps have nationally-televised night games against Charlotte (Sept. 9 / 7:30 p.m. on NBC) and Virginia (Sept. 15 / 7 p.m. on FS1).
Season tickets for the 2023 Maryland football season are now on sale, starting at just $99, the lowest they've been since the 2004 season! More information on season tickets can be found here.
