Myles Powell gets initial win over Willard, Seton Hall in lawsuit

A motion to dismiss Myles Powell's negligence lawsuit against Willard and Seton Hall was denied by a NJ court today. Doesn't mean Powell has won the suit, simply means they feel there is enough there to move forward with a trial. Honestly a bit surprised, as Powell is claiming if he had shut it down during his senior season he would have been a 1st round pick. Instead, he was 1st-team All-Big East, Big East Player of the Year, won the Jerry West Award and was a consensus 1st-team All-American......and still didn't get drafted! Strange, indeed.

WBB: Diamond Miller named to Wooden watch list

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Senior Diamond Miller of the 19th-ranked Maryland women's basketball team is one of 50 top players in the country named to the Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 Watch List Tuesday.

Miller is currently averaging 16.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks through two games this season. In Sunday's win over Fordham, she scored 22 points with a career-high 13 rebounds for her fourth career double-double.

Before the season, Miller was named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Watch List for the nation's top shooting guard and the Naismith Trophy Watch List. She was named to the All-Big Ten Preseason Team for the second straight season as well.

Miller, a two-time All-Big Ten honoree and 2021 Big Ten Tournament Co-MVP, is Maryland's leading returning scorer after averaging 13.1 points and 4.0 rebounds last year. Miller earned All-Big Ten Second Team honors.

Miller became the 36th Terrapin to reach the 1,000-career points mark with her 23-point performance in the Terps' NCAA Tournament First Round win over Delaware.

The players on the list are considered strong candidates for the 2023 John R. Wooden Award Women's Player of the Year presented by Wendy's. Players not chosen to the preseason list are still eligible for the Wooden Award midseason list, late season list, and the National Ballot. The National Ballot consists of 15 top players who have proven to their universities that they meet or exceed the qualifications of the Wooden Award. Nearly 1,000 voters will rank in order 10 of those 15 players when voting opens prior to the NCAA Tournament and will allow voters to take into consideration performance during early round games. The Wooden Award All American Team will be announced the week of the "Elite Eight" round of the NCAA Tournament. The winner of the 2023 John R. Wooden Award will be presented in Los Angeles in April.

Miller and the Terrapins (2-1) will host Davidson (1-1) Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the XFINITY Center in the Terrapins' annual Field Trip Day game. The matchup will be streamed on B1G+.

Snap Counts & PFF Grade: Penn State

Here are your snap counts and PFF grades from Saturdays loss. One thing that Vinny Cerrato pointed out this morning when I was on with them was how it seemed like the Maryland receivers just completely gave up. Stopped running routes to completion, stopped blocking, etc. One number that really jumped out to me was Rakim Jarrett's low run blocking grade. That's an area where he is usually solid. COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland will host No. 2 Ohio State on Saturday, Nov. 19 for a Big Ten East clash that will kickoff at 3:30 pm and air on ABC, it was announced on Saturday night.

Maryland (6-4, 3-4 Big Ten) fell at No. 14 Penn State on Saturday. Ohio State (10-0, 7-0 Big Ten) is coming off a win over Indiana.

The Terps have not hosted the Buckeyes since 2018. Ohio State won that game in overtime, 52-51.

Is there a Terrapin therapy group

At this point in my life I need help to navigate the season of Women's basketball. I am no expert but what was Brenda thinking when she kept focusing on getting guards, We cant buy a legit rebound. Its going to be brutal this year. I look at this years roster and what we have in coming next year and we got no big's. Chardon did not meet expectations and now she is out. Kubek might have added some heft in the middle. I need some help cause its this year and also next.

Kyle Boller

That is who Lia reminded me of yesterday. Happy feet, holds the ball too long, so nervous and jumpy that he can't find the open receivers. Panics. And it doesn't help that our coaching staff hasn't taught receivers and QB about hot reads and fionding the open spots vacated by the blitzing players. Ugh. Turned the game off before halftime. Too much PTSD remebering the Kyle Boller years in Baltimore.

Recruiting skyrocketing for Florida DE Markus Strong

Union County (Fla.) DE Markus Strong has seen his recruitment explode over the past month or so and the Terps were the first P5 school to throw their hat in the ring. He has some ties to the area and is looking to visit soon. Rutgers, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Georgia Tech and UCF ARE among the others to recently offer. More at the link below.

Locksley says postgame...

Give credit to PSU, today we didn't play up to our standard in any phase. I need to look at all three phases and make sure we are playing the right guys and doing the right things and get things fixed here. No time to panic, though. But we need to look at every aspect, personnel, play calling, everything.

It is easy to give all the blame to the QB, but it isn't all on him, it is lots of things. But as an offense, we haven't executed and we aren't doing things like we do during practice.

On defense, didn't say a lot of missed alignments, but a lot of missed tackles. A lot of big plays where we just didn't make the play we need to in order to play winning football.

It comes back to execution on offense, and not just the players, but the coaches also. Do we have the right personnel, are we dotting the 'i's' and crossing the 't's' because we had opportunities and we just aren't making plays.

It's frustrating because we are not playing like we practice. We were executing at a much better pace earlier in the year and we have too many negative plays on offense and giving up too many big plays on defense. But again, I need to make sure we have the right players on the field and make sure I am giving us the best chance to win.

Again, one play, they lined up under center and we knew what was coming and we missed the C gap and they had a big play.

We've worked our butts off trying to cover up the movement of the defenses and our running backs struggled. But again, it's up to me to figure it out.

Asked about Chop's play today.....did not like that question! Basically says he has no idea what he did today but the Terps need to play better.

Today PSU played better than Maryland and my job is to make sure we are the team that plays better.

***Penn State Game Thread***

We're about a half hour from kickoff between the Terps and PSU in Happy Valley. Terps going with the retro look today with the red Terps script helmet, white jersey with red, black and yellow stripes and red pants.

On the injury front, Rakim Jarrett warming up and it looks like he'll be a go today. On the other sideline, starting PSU corner Joey Porter Jr. is not dressed.

Interesting points in Drew Timme Q&A on NIL

A good Q&A with Gonzaga's Drew Timme but three specific to NIL, which could help college hoops keep some of its players

How has NIL impacted college basketball?

I would just say this: Look at all the dudes that came back because of it. Without NIL, Oscar (Tshiebwe) and I aren’t back. There’s a huge benefit of this. We’re able to get more money here by doing it than heading elsewhere. Look at the big matchups because of stars returning. I can’t wait to face Oscar and Kentucky this season. It raises the level of college basketball. I’m not in this position, but sometimes people have had to leave college basketball just to go make any sort of money for their families to make ends meet. NIL gives people a chance to stay in college, get better and develop while making money and earning a degree. Sometimes we’ve seen situations where people leave early, and what if they come back for one more year? What could it do for them? NIL opens up more doors in college sports.

Let’s just say you went pro. How much would you have made this season?

If I had to ballpark it, I would say $200,000-$500,000. If I could have been drafted where some better projections had me, it’s more.

How much will you make this season while staying in college?

I won’t get too far into specifics, but it’s going to be more. It will be more than that.
