COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland senior defensive back Dante Trader Jr. has been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Trader Jr. led the Terps defense with a career-high tying 11 tackles, an interception and a pass break-up in Maryland's 27-13 win at Virginia this past Saturday. The interception was the fifth of Trader's career.
Led by Trader Jr., the Maryland defense came up huge in the second half of the game against the Cavaliers. The Terps held Virginia scoreless and only gave up 82 total yards in the second half.
In total, Maryland’s defense created four turnovers against the Cavaliers and now leads the nation with a +9 turnover margin.
Trader is the first Terp to earn Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week since Tarheeb Still on Nov. 13, 2023.
Maryland is set to host Villanova this Saturday at SECU Stadium. The game, which will be part of Family Weekend on campus, is set to kickoff at Noonand will be broadcast on Big Ten Network and the Maryland Sports Radio Network.
