WBB: Three signees named McDonald's All-Americans

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Three incoming Terrapins from Maryland’s top-ranked class of 2016 were named McDonald's All-Americans Sunday. Kaila Charles (Glendale, Md./Riverdale Baptist) and Blair Watson (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) were named to the East Team, while Destiny Slocum (Meridian, Idaho/Mountain View) made the West Team.

The trio makes up half of Maryland’s No. 1 recruiting class. All six signees were nominated to the McDonald's All-American Game. Maryland and Stanford are the only schools with three honorees.

Head coach Brenda Frese has brought in 21 McDonald's All-Americans to College Park in her 14 years at Maryland. Current Terrapins Malina Howard, Ieshia Small, Brianna Fraser and Kiah Gillespie were all McDonald's All-Americans. Frese has also signed 11 top recruiting 10 classes in her tenure.

Charles is averaging 20 points per game this season. She has helped lead her Riverdale Baptist team to a No. 2 national ranking. She was named the No. 25 overall player by both ESPN and the Collegiate Girls Report and No. 21 by the All Star Girls Report.

Slocum recently surpassed 2,000 career points at Mountain View High School. She is averaging 23 points, 5.8 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game so far this season. Slocum was ranked the No. 7 overall player in the country and helped the USA Basketball Under-19 Team to a gold medal in the FIBA World Championships in Moscow this summer.

Watson recently became the all-time leading girls scorer at Nutley High School with over 1,600 points scored in her career. She was named the No. 28 overall player by both ESPN and the Collegiate Girls Report and No. 24 by the All Star Girls Report. She averages over 25.0 points and four three-pointers a game

The 15th annual McDonald's All-American Girls Game will be on March 30 at 6:30 p.m. ET in Chicago. It will be shown on ESPNU. For more on the rosters and the game, click here.

The Terrapins (16-2, 5-1 B1G) will travel to Wisconsin (6-10, 2-4) for a midweek matchup Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET. The Terps-Badgers matchup will be streamed live online through BTN Plus and will require a subscription.

After Wednesday’s matchup, the Terrapins will return home to host No. 18 Michigan State (13-4, 4-2) Saturday at 2 p.m. at the XFINITY Center.

The Terrapins will be giving away the Chloe Pavlech bobblehead at the Michigan State game. For the giveaways, fans will receive a scratch-off ticket when they enter XFINITY Center and 500 lucky fans will win a bobblehead. Non-winning tickets will include a merchandise discount at the Terrapin Team Shop. Fans with winning scratch off tickets can redeem their ticket for a bobble head in the XFINITY Center Pavilion, located on the ground floor, following the conclusion of the game.
