COLLEGE PARK, MD — Six players scored in double-figures as the No. 3 Terps (4-0) led wire-to-wire against the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers, winning 98-57, on Tuesday night at the XFINITY Center.

Angel Reese had another standout performance to start the year, finishing the game with 18 points and a game-high and career-high 15 rebounds, her third game this season with at least 14 rebounds. It was her third double-double in as many games, becoming the first Terp since Brionna Jones in 2016-17 to achieve that feat.

Freshman Shyanne Sellers recorded her first career double-double as a Terp with her 12 point and 11 rebound performance.

Mimi Collins (18 points), Ashley Owusu (16 points), Katie Benzan (14 points) and Chloe Bibby (13 points) all scored in double-figures. Bibby and Collins also grabbed nine rebounds apiece.

Benzan shot 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point range, including her 100th career three-point make as a Terp. She also finished the night with eight assists and four steals.

Maryland's defense forced 17 turnovers and limited the Mountaineers to just 35% shooting on the night.

The Mount (1-2) was led by Aryna Taylor, who scored 21 points.

Brenda Frese's Take
"I loved our start. That's one thing we've been talking about is getting out to a hot start. I loved that first quarter when you talk about holding them to seven points. I thought it was a pretty complete game for us. I love how we're sharing the basketball, our assist/turnover ratio. We did a phenomenal job pounding the glass, when you talk about the rebounding. Just continuing to try to keep improving defensively. We had a lot of different matchups and rotations in there tonight, trying to work everything through. I thought we're building it with so many games here."

Breaking Down The Game
  • The Terps scored the first 16 points of the game, not allowing a point until the 2:13 mark of the first quarter. Maryland finished the quarter up 23-7, led by Bibby's eight points and three rebounds.
  • Maryland began to extend their lead in the second quarter thanks to two three-pointers from Benzan and one from Collins in the first five minutes of the frame. The Terps dominated in transition in the first half to the tune of 21-0 fast break points en route to a 53-25 lead at the break.
  • The Terps managed to open up a 30-point lead (74-44) after the third quarter as Benzan put in a team-high six points in the frame, with Sellers notching five points of her own.

  • Reese became the first Terp with three consecutive games with 10-plus rebounds since Brionna's sister Stephanie Jones had three games in a row with double-figure rebounds in the final three games of her career to finish the 2019-20 COVID-shorted season. She had 10-plus boards in each of the Big Ten Tournament games (March 6-8, 2020).

  • Benzan now has 103 3-pointers in her two seasons as a Terp in becoming the 17th Maryland player to reach the 100 made 3-pointers milestone.
  • Overall, she has 390 triples in her career with 287 coming in her three years at Harvard (2016-19).

Double-Figure Games
  • Collins scored in double-figures for the 25th time ever and third this year.
