COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) -- No. 4 Maryland cruised past Wagner 119-56 in the season opener on Tuesday, with the Terrapins nearly tying their all-time scoring record in the first NCAA basketball game - men's or women's of the year.

Senior Kaila Charles, sophomore Shakira Austin and freshman Ashley Owusu each had 18 points and senior Stephanie Jones had 17 for Maryland, while senior Sara Vujacic added a career-high 15. Austin added 11 rebounds for a double-double and Owusu dished nine assists in her Maryland debut.

Terrapin freshman Diamond Miller's sister, Laniya Miller, is a redshirt freshman for Wagner.

These classes received free lesson plans aligned with Common Core standards, focusing on numeracy and literacy, while familiarizing students with the game of basketball.

Next, Maryland will host No. 8/10 South Carolina Sunday at 3 p.m. at the XFINITY Center. Tickets for the top 10 matchup are on sale here. All fans are encouraged to wear white for a White Out game.
