COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland women's basketball head coach Brenda Frese of the Maryland women's basketball team announced two staff updates Tuesday.

Assistant Coach Kaitlynn Fratz's title will be Assistant Coach/Defensive Specialist. Jessica Imhof is now the Director of Scouting/Assistant Coach.

Frese promoted Maryland native Fratz to assistant coach in the spring of 2019, after serving as an interim assistant for the 2018-19 season. Fratz is entering her sixth season as a full-time assistant for the Terps in 2023. In her five seasons as an assistant coach, Fratz has helped the Terps earn a record of 134-28 (.827) and win the 2019, 2020, 2021 Big Ten regular season titles and the 2020 and 2021 Big Ten Tournament titles. Fratz helped the Terrapins to three straight Sweet Sixteens in 2021, 2022 and 2023 and the 2023 Elite Eight.

In the spring of 2020, Fratz was named one of the WBCA's Thirty under 30 honorees as an up-and-coming women's basketball coach.

Fratz took on a major role in implementing a new defensive scheme for the Terrapins before the 2019-20 season. That year, the Terps were No. 5 in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 57.0 points per game. They were also top-five in the country in steals (12.6), turnover margin (+7.25) and sixth in turnovers forced (22.1).

"I love rewarding people when people work hard," Frese said. "It was a no-brainer to add the title of defensive specialist to Kaitlynn Fratz's title due to the fact that she has put her stamp on our defense. She takes tremendous pride on that side of the floor for us."

Imhof joined Frese's staff in the fall of 2020 as the Director of Scouting and Player Development.

Over three seasons as the Terrapins' advance scout, Imhof has helped the Terps to a record of 77-19 (.802) and the 2021 Big Ten Tournament and regular season titles. In her three seasons in College Park, Imhof has helped the Terrapins to three straight Sweet Sixteens in 2021, 2022 and 2023 and the 2023 Elite Eight.

In her new role, she will take on additional coaching responsibilities.

"Jessica has done an unbelievable job for us as our advanced scout and I am excited to now add her expertise to our coaching staff as an assistant coach on the court," Frese said. "Our players have benefited immensely from Jess. There is no doubt in my mind that this is one of the best coaching staffs in the country."

Due to a recent NCAA rules change, basketball programs are now permitted to have five assistant coach positions on staff, but only three can recruit off campus.
