It's always an interesting argument here when the topic of Turge's talent as a coach comes up. On the one hand, you can point to his record at every stop, B1G Co Champs last year, overall winning record, and a few significant recruiting wins along the way. Add that all up and you make the case that he is a good coach.

On the flip side you can argue the record is too padded with patsies, the recruiting losses outweigh the wins, the talent he gets doesn't develop like it should, and his overall record in the NCAA tourney is not that of a great coach.

Now last year he turned in a pretty good coaching job. After years of same ol', same ol', he switched up on D with zones and presses, and actually seemed to run a little more than usual (though the statistics may show that to be an illusion), and the team looked poised to make a decent run in the NCAAs. Sadly, we'll never know.

Now comes this year's team. I think we all agree that they will struggle. Looking at the schedule, and the way they got slapped around by Rutgers and Clemson, we could easily see 1-9 in the B1G by the end of January. This team is soft, has no lead dog, no meaningful interior presence that will scare anybody. It's gonna be a long season!

Turge has a habit of mostly recruiting 4 year players. A couple of pros mixed in, and a couple of gems along the way. But never dominant talent. Nice talent, and some guys who may develop into absolute studs. But never sure-fire, can't miss talent. And he never will. Despite the tradition. Despite the facilities. Despite the media market. Despite the Conference. His offense is boring, he doesn't like to run - the team plays vanilla ball, reflective of the coaches personality

Turge will never be "Good to Great". Please, no more extensions
