ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Johns Hopkins and Maryland both advanced to the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Final Four on Sunday after posting wins in the quarterfinals. The Blue Jays and Terrapins will meet innext Saturday’s national semifinals for the right to play for the NCAA Championship.
Johns Hopkins defeated second-seeded Syracuse, 16-15, while Maryland beat third-seeded North Carolina, 14-7. Both games were played at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md.
Johns Hopkins was led by Shack Stanwick and Wells Stanwick, who each scored four goals. Eric Schneider tallied 15 saves in the cage. The Blue Jays trailed 7-6 at halftime, but scored five goals in each of the third and fourth stanzas, claiming a 15-10 lead before holding off a late rally by Syracuse. Johns Hopkins advances to its first Final Four since 2008.
Maryland never trailed versus the Tar Heels, jumping out to a 9-2 lead at halftime. Bryan Cole scored a game-high four goals, while Connor Kelly added three goals. Goalkeeper Kyle Bernlohr collected 12 saves, as Maryland held North Carolina to more than seven goals below its season average. The Terrapins advanced to their second straight Final Four and fourth in the past five seasons.
