COLUMBUS, OH – Logan McNaney’s first save of the game that occurred on the doorstep at the 8:28 mark in the first quarter rewrote the record books as No. 6 Maryland men’s lacrosse defeated No. 2 Ohio State, 13-8, at Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium on Saturday before 2,854 fans.

Maryland improved to 9-2 overall and 2-2 in Big Ten play, earning its seventh win over a ranked team and third over a top-three-ranked squad this season. This was also the ninth game this season the Terps held an opponent to single-digit goals.

McNaney’s save broke Kevin O'Leary’s program record of 705 saves that stood for over 40 years, set during his playing career from 1981-84. The Tewaaraton Watch List nominee finished the game with 10 saves, giving him 715 for his career. McNaney has now made double-digit saves in 10 of 11 games this season.

Maryland trailed Ohio State 2-1 midway through the first quarter, but the Terps sparked an 8-1 scoring run to lead 9-3 at halftime. The run started with a goal by Matthew Keegan at the 5:49 first-quarter mark and ended with a score by Zach Whittier with two seconds on the clock before the break. The strong first half, offensively and defensively, allowed Maryland to cruise to victory.

It was the 19th of his career and first this season as a Terp. Ford and Keegan were two of four Terps to score multiple goals, joining Daniel Kelly and Eric Spanos. Kelly also recorded an assist.

Maryland dominated possession throughout the first half, evident in its outshooting of Ohio State 20-13 in the first 30 minutes of play. However, when called upon in the second half, its defense played extraordinarily well. Will Schaller, AJ Larkin and Jackson Canfield all caused at least one turnover. Schaller led the group with a pair.

Jonah Carrier (8 wins) and Shea Keethler (7 wins) combined to win 15-of-25 faceoffs. They each led the team with five ground balls apiece.

The Buckeyes are now 11-2 overall and 3-1 in Big Ten play. The Terps snapped their 11-game win streak, the longest win streak in the nation. Maryland is also now 15-3 against Ohio State all-time.
