COLLEGE PARK, Md. –Maryland men’s lacrosse coach John Tillman has announced Tyler Barbarich as the program’s volunteer assistant coach. Barbarich will work primarily with the faceoff specialists.
“We are very fortunate to have Tyler join our staff,” said Tillman. “He has been successful as a player, coach and student. He will be a great resource for our young men on and off the field.”
A 2015 graduate of the University of Delaware, Barbarich most recently spent the last two seasons as the Blue Hens’ volunteer assistant coach. He also played professionally for the Chesapeake Bayhawks.
Barbarich was one of the nation’s top faceoff specialists during his tenure at Delaware (2012-15), sporting a .557 career win percentage and picking up 214 ground balls in 50 career appearances. He finished his career ranked fifth in program history in both career faceoff percentage and faceoff wins (443).
A native of Martinsville, N.J., Barbarich was also a member of the gold medal-winning United States Under-19 Team in 2011.
Former standout Terrapin faceoff specialist Charlie Raffa was teammates with Barbarich on the U19 team in 2011. Raffa said, “Tyler is a great person and coach. He will bring a vast amount of experience and knowledge to the faceoff unit at Maryland. Tyler will be a great addition to the program and will help the Terps continue to succeed at the X moving forward.”
Additionally, Barbarich (pronounced “barber-rich”) is involved as a coach with the Face-Off Factory.
