The first June hoops live period is underway this afternoon and Kevin Willard along with Tony Skinn are both at DeMatha today for the DMV Live event that features most of the top high school teams in the area.

The big game of the early goings today was Bishop O'Connell vs. St. Frances and it was a good one. O'Connell beat St. Frances 64-62, but Jahn Lamothe had a solid outing in front of his future head coach. Lamothe finished with 11 points on 4-9 shooting, including 3-6 from beyond the arc. He also pitched in with 6 rebounds, 6 assists and a steal. He did have 5 turnovers though, will need to clean that up. But another solid outing for the future Terp.

Jamie Kaiser and Bishop Ireton playing now while Paul VI and Mt. Carmel both play twice this evening. But almost all of these guys Maryland has just offered are playing at DeMatha this weekend. Look for Maryland to possibly offer Drew McKenna of Glenelg Country as well this weekend. He runs with Team Melo on the EYBL circuit and is a high riser. He picked up offers in the past couple of days from G'town, Illinois and Virginia Tech. But I've been told Maryland will be watching.

Wow! Terps were rolling 4 deep for Kaiser with Willard, Skinn, Billmeier and Cox all on hand for his first game.

What a breath of fresh air...and cause for optimism. If this is how Willard and staff are going to approach going after talent, I think we're in for a very nice change. Put that together with better scheduling and strong performance on the court next year and you get the program right back up where we all want it.

Was just informed that the new staff re-offered Jaeden Mustaf earlier today. Heard he put on a show himself this evening down in North Carolina.

Willard and Skinn courtside for Kaiser's game this morning. Things could get interesting here. He told a colleague of mine late last night that he's still wide open and is taking his time with no plans to commit now. I'm setting something up to talk with him later this weekend. Between his performance versus DJ Wagner down in Hampton and now his performance yesterday, he's blow up to top 50, maybe even top 30 like status.

Glenelg's Drew McKenna, who just picked up an offer today, also went off this morning, going for 24 points on a perfect 10-for-10 from the field. He then went for 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting in the game that just ended. He's likely going to see his ranking skyrocket.

Kudos to the staff for finding talent and giving out early offers. Now can they close the deal will be the key!

Better yet, we have a coach again who is treating it like a Top 20 job. Still early, but you have to be encouraged by the scheduling and recruiting moves so far. Just have to get in there and fight for the 4 and 5 star guys. Getting even 1-2 5 stars should be a yearly happening. To quote from an article written the year after Gary won the Natty - "Gary Williams doesn't recruit. He re-loads." Lets get back to that.
