• Indiana’s Michael Penix Jr. made his collegiate debut in record-breaking fashion this past weekend. The Tampa, Fla., native became the first Indiana freshman quarterback to start a season opener since Antwaan Randle El in 1998 and joined Randle El as the only Hoosier freshman to record more than 300 passing yards in his first start…

• With its victory over Florida Atlantic last weekend, Ohio State claimed its seventh straight win overall, marking the second-longest active streak among Autonomy Five teams. The win was the fourth for head coach Ryan Day, who posted a 3-0 record a year ago as interim head coach…

• Maryland opened up the Michael Locksley era with a 79-0 victory over Howard on Friday. The Terrapins’ 79 points were the second-most in program history, only one point away from the record set in an 80-0 win over Washington College in 1927. The 79 points are tied for the fifth-most by a FBS team in a game since 2013…

• Michigan State won its 21st consecutive home opener with a 28-7 win over Tulsa. The Spartans lead the nation in rushing defense after holding the Golden Hurricane to minus 73 yards rushing, a school-record low for a Spartan opponent. Senior defensive end Kenny Willekes recorded seven tackles for loss, including 2.5 TFLs (6 yards) and two sacks (5 yards)…
