Despite suffering through its worst season in a while, Maryland football hasn't seen a lot of staff changes this offseason. The biggest news is yet to come, whenever Mike Locksley announces his next offensive coordinator. But there was quietly a change this week.​

Despite suffering through its worst season in a while, Maryland football hasn't seen a lot of staff changes this offseason. The biggest news is yet to come, whenever Mike Locksley announces his next offensive coordinator. But there was quietly a change this week.

Lance Thompson, Maryland's inside linebackers coach for the past three seasons, is no longer with the program, sources close to the situation told InsideMDSports. It's unclear how Thompson's departure went down, but it sounds like Locksley will be in the market for another assistant coach.

Thompson, 60, coached at several SEC and other southern schools during his career before ending up at Maryland.

Locksley hired Thompson in Feb. 2022. Via Wes Brown's reporting at the time:

Thompson and Mike Locksley share a connection with Nick Saban, as Thompson was a part of Saban's LSU staff and served three stints with the Crimson Tide. His time in Tuscaloosa saw him repeatedly reach the top of the recruiting world, being named Rivals national recruiter of the year in 2008 and being ranked as the No. 1 recruiter in the nation 2014, according to the Ultimate ESPN 300 recruiting power rankings.
He has helped pull in 16 top 150 players in his recruiting career, according to 247Sports, including being listed as the primary recruiter for wide receiver Julio Jones in 2008 and defensive lineman Jonathan Allen in 2013 at Alabama

The Riverdale, Ga., native guided a talented inside linebacker unit this season and was one of Maryland's more active recruiters, highlighted by the commitment of four-star running back Dejuan Williams last year.
