LOS ANGELES, CA – Senior Diamond Miller of the 13th-ranked Maryland women's basketball team is one of 25 top players in the country named to the John R. Wooden Award® presented by Wendy's® Midseason Top 25 Watch List Wednesday.

Miller, who was on the Preseason Top 50 Watch List, is leading the Terrapins with 18.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. The two-time All-Big Ten honoree has scored in double figures in 13 of 14 games this season and has led the Terps to three wins over top-25 teams.

Miller is leading the Big Ten in blocks (1.86) and is 10th in the nation in free throws made (78).

Miller has three double-doubles on the year, including at No. 17 Baylor and in a win at No. 7 Notre Dame. She scored a career-high 32 points over Baylor and hit a buzzer-beating jumper to clinch the win over the Irish. Her 18.3 points per contest are the most by a Terrapin since Brionna Jones averaged 19.9 in 2016-17.

Maryland (12-3, 3-1 B1G) will host Michigan State (10-5, 2-2) Saturday at 1 p.m. at the XFINITY Center. The Terps-Spartans game will be streamed on B1G+.

Told you guys to hold tight just a little longer on Prather and he's made it official this afternoon, as he publicly announced that he will transfer to Maryland. This is a huge pickup for Locksley and the Terps' offense, as Prather is a P5 starter who caught 50 balls this season and has excellent size at 6-foot-4, with the ability to be both a downfield threat and a nice red zone target. STORY

Rivals national analyst Ryan Wright caught up with Andrew Harris at the UA game to get the latest with the twins' recruitment. If he's to be taken at his word, it sounds like they aren't going to announce this week at the UA game and an Arkansas visit might now be on the table. If that is true, that could be a game changer.

Really not sure what to make of this recruitment at this point. Felt really good about Maryland but the longer this drags on, I just don't know what to think. If Tuesday comes and goes without a commitment, they could be in for a battle over the next month. More at the link below.

STORY

The Harris twins remain uncommitted following last night's UA All-America game. The twins played well in the game, combining for three tackles for loss. The expectation (MY expectation) leading up to the early signing period was that the twins were going to sign with Maryland after decommitting from UCF following the loss of their defensive coordinator to Arkansas. But the twins said this week that the plan is to now hold off until Feb. 1 and that a visit to Arkansas is a possibility. Everything I was hearing leading up to the early signing period was that Arkansas wasn't an option. But it appears maybe things are changing on that front. I still like Maryland's chances here, but Locks & Co. will have to continue to prioritize the twins and hope things don't materialize with Arkansas. If they do, it could become a real battle. But as I've mentioned before, this is one of those recruitments where, from everything I've been told, all parties have never been 100% on board with any decision. They have just really struggled to get everyone on the same page throughout. All of that said, these are two extremely talented kids at a position of need and they will continue to do whatever is necessary to get them on campus.

The other big name for Terps fans from last night's game is local five-star Nyckoles Harbor. As expected, he played on the offensive side of the ball and he's made it known that is where he wants to play at the next level. The big surprise here is that he now plans on taking an official visit to Oregon. It seems no Miami, no LSU, but Oregon will get an official visit. As of now, I still have a hard time seeing them as a major player here. Could they become one following the visit? Sure, but they will need to absolutely blow him away. The other three schools that remain in the mix are Maryland, Michigan and South Carolina, with the Terps and Wolverines seemingly leading the way. The big news coming out of the last couple of days that could perhaps really benefit the Terps here is the news Harbaugh could be headed back to the NFL. As most of you probably already know, he thought he had the Vikings job last offseason and was planning to leave before they decided to go in a different direction. There are multiple teams with ties to Harbaugh looking for a new head coach this offseason and it looks like a real possibility he bolts back to the pro ranks. If that happens, I have the Terps way out ahead of the pack heading into Feb. As is, I've gone on record, I think the Terps lead here and as of now nothing has happened to make me think otherwise.

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland head football coach Michael Locksley announced the additions of six transfers to the Terrapin program on Tuesday.
Locksley welcomes Donnell Brown (Saint Francis, Pa.), Tyrese Chambers (FIU), Marcus Dumervil (LSU), Jordan Phillips (Tennessee), Ja’Quan Sheppard (Cincinnati) and Avantae Williams (Miami) for the 2023 season.
“I’m thrilled to welcome these six student-athletes to our Maryland football family,” said Locksley. “This is a group of players that will help bolster areas of need on our roster and create competition at a number of key spots. I’m looking forward to getting them going in our Terp Time program and spring ball.”
The group features two All-Conference honorees, a FCS All-American, a program receiving record holder, and two four-star recruits out of high school. In total, this class of transfers has played in 129 games, won conference championships, appeared in the College Football Playoff and features additions at wide receiver, defensive back and offensive and defensive line.

1. Willard needs to stop saying we are a good shooting team/we are not!;
2. Willard's philosophy of play good defense and do what you want on offense is clearly not working;
3. Reese is a MAJOR disappointment (he's no Stix);
4. In addition to the 3 guards coming in next year we need some BIGS as all 5 starters need to be replaced (4 have used up eligibility sans COVID and Reese)!;
5. Long has been a nice surprise and there are no NBA caliber players on the team but the one who has barely scratched the surface and has the highest ceiling is Martinez;
6. Turgeon's teams had many slow starts but I cannot recall debacles like the first half against Tenn., and blowouts to UCLA and Michigan; and
7. As I stated prior to the season starting this is the same team as last year with Young & Carey replacing EA and Fatts. How Willard got them 8-0 out of the gate is a miracle.

May a new owner bury the team. Start over. Fre the Staff. Get an NFL caliber quarterback. Can’t happen soon enough.

The Terps enter the new year riding a two-game win streak following a victory over UMBC in their final tune-up of the season last Thursday night. The schedule will now get increasingly more difficult the rest of the way with Big Ten play now in full swing. The Terps will start the new year with a tough road matchup versus the Michigan Wolverines. The Terps lost to the Wolverines in Ann Arbor last season, as 7-foot-1 local product Hunter Dickinson went off for 21 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and a couple of blocks for Michigan. Slowing down Dickinson will be among the keys for the Terps and will also be one of their biggest challenges given their lack of depth in the paint.

Both sophomore big man Julian Reese and senior forward Donta Scott played well at Michigan last season, Scott pouring in 19 points and grabbing 6 rebounds, while Reese scored 10 points and added 5 rebounds. Both being able to put up similar numbers again in Ann Arbor would greatly help the Terps' chances of pulling out a road win.

While Ian Martinez and Patrick Emilien both started the past two games, there is a good chance, if it isn't likely that Don Carey and Reese will be back in the starting lineup versus Michigan. Carey in particular is coming off of his best offensive performance as a Terp after scoring 19 points versus UMBC, including five made threes. If Carey can knock down some threes in league play it can completely change the outlook for Maryland as he becomes another weapon on the perimeter that opposing defenses have to account for.

For Michigan, the Wolverines have struggled of late, having lost their last two, including a home loss to Central Michigan. Freshman Dug McDaniel has started the past four games at the point after senior point guard Jaelin Llewellyn was lost for the season after suffering a torn ACL versus Kentucky in London. Maryland will likely try to force the Wolverines into some turnovers, but Michigan is one of the best teams in the country at not turning it over, currently ranking 2nd nationally. Previous Terps opponents UCLA and Wisconsin are also in the top 10 nationally of offensive turnover percentage.

This one should be a battle as Michigan is looking to right the ship at home, while the Terps are looking to keep up in the Big Ten standings and get a key road win after dropping their first road contest at Wisconsin.

Eight wins including a bowl victory, a win against a favorite, albeit a slim one, and beating a team with a winning record well over .500.

That is progress.

The defense came to play when it mattered and stopped their running game cold.

The offense did just enough to keep our nose in front, despite some apparent stupid off-field player decisions and the exodus of certain important players.

Well done Chad Ryland, except for that 1 kickoff ...

Regardless of all the challenges, Locksley and the staff rose up and kept it all together and overcame all the obstacles.

Next year, year 5, will tell us all, but to break that ceiling, we MUST upgrade our player's level of ability.

Think about it, THIRD PLACE in the East is playing in the Rose Bowl. Can Locksley take that next step? I personally doubt it, but, sure as shit, I hope I am wrong.

The jury is out, what will be their verdict in 2023?
