COLLEGE PARK, MD – The Big Ten Conference and its television partners announced game times and television designations on Wednesday for Maryland football’s first three games of the 2023 season, as well as game time windows for three other games including the Terps’ Homecoming game on October 14.

The Terrapins will open their 2023 campaign at home against Towson on September 2 at 3:30 p.m. on the Big Ten Network. This will be the third all-time meeting between the in-state foes, with the last coming in 2017.

The following week Maryland will host Charlotte for the first time in program history in primetime, with the game on September 9 slated for a 7:30 p.m. start on NBC. This marks Maryland’s first game broadcast on NBC since Nov. 12, 2011 when the Terps took on Notre Dame.

Maryland will host Virginia for Friday Night Lights the following week on September 15 at 7:00 p.m. on FS1. The Terps have played Virginia in football 78 times, the most of any opponent in school history. The Terps are 44-32-2 all-time against the Cavaliers, including wins in their two most recent meetings in 2012 and 2013.

The Terps first Big Ten game of the year will be a 3:30 p.m. kickoff at Michigan State in East Lansing, Michigan on September 23. The television designation will be chosen in the normal 12-/6-day selection process closer to the game date.

Maryland’s game at Ohio State on October 7 will either be a 12:00 p.m. or 3:30/4:00 p.m. start, as will the Terps homecoming game against Illinois the following week on October 14. Television details will be released at a later date.

The 2023 season marks the first season with a new set of broadcast partners for the Big Ten that will deliver exciting matchups to fans across broadcast, cable and direct-to-consumer platforms. The Big Ten is the only conference to partner with three broadcast networks – CBS, FOX and NBC. Big Ten Network and FS1 will continue to carry games on cable networks, while NBCUniversal’s direct-to-consumer platform, Peacock, will carry Big Ten games for the first time.

Maryland returns six starters on the offensive side of the ball in 2023. The potent Terrapins offense ranked Top Five in the Big Ten in points per game (28.2), yards per game (401.2) and passing yards per game (259.8) last season. Top returners include Second Team All-Big Ten quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, Freshman All-American running back Roman Hemby and All-Big Ten offensive lineman Delmar Glaze.

A much improved Maryland defense brings back five starters in 2023, including Freshman All-American Jaishawn Barham and All-Big Ten defensive back Beau Brade. Last year, the Terrapin defense allowed its fewest points and touchdowns in a season since 2010.
