Again, the big news coming out of Wednesday morning's spring football practice was that, projected starting left offensive tackle, Derwin Gray will undergo surgery on Friday to repair a torn labrum. Head coach Randy Edsall said that Gray suffered the injury during a one-on-one blocking drill on Monday. There is no real projection as to when Gray will be ready to play, but, Edsall said after practice that he should be cleared in the fall.

With Michael Dunn already on the shelf for the remainder of the spring, walk-on Mike Minter was playing with the ones at left tackle, today. We'll see if there is any shuffling, up front, for the spring game on Saturday.

There were high school players and coaches at Wednesday's practice from Towson, Richard Montgomery, Dulaney, Annapolis, Good Counsel, Oxen Hill and Dupont (Del). A new face on the recruiting front, Taylor Edwards. The 2016 Rivals.com 2-star Dupont athlete appears to be a receiver type at 212-pounds. He has just one offer, to date, Old Dominion. Also, Terp signee defensive tackle Keiron Howard was in the crowd.

Wednesday was another rainy, cold day in Byrd Stadium but that didn't hamper the offense for having another stellar practice. It was, probably, the best practice during his Terp career for Shane Cockerille. After overthrowing a wide-open Malcolm Culmer for a potential 50-yard TD pass, Cockerille settled down and made some plays. He followed up his miss with a 43-yard run and then found Culmer for a 72-yard strike. The pass was on stride and in between Zach Dancel and Will Likely. A few plays later, Cockerille hit Juwann Winfree in the corner of the end zone for a 29-yard touchdown.

Two series later, Cockerille found Culmer, again, for 15-yards and a score. The players on the field and on the sidelines erupted and drew multiple celebration penalties.

Perry Hills had a solid day after throwing an interception to Alvin Hill during 7-on-7's. In the team scrimmage he found the Andrew Stefenelli for a touchdown pass and run.

Other notable offensive performances include Albert Reid's 32-yard catch/run and a 37-yard screen pass catch and run. Levern Jacobs caught passes of 28 and 35-yards. Marcus Leak never gave up on a pass tipped by Tyler Burke for 25-yards. Leak then came back and caught a 47-yard strike from Perry Hills. But, the offensive play of the day was Jacquille Veii's lowering his shoulder into Anthony Nixon knocking him off his cleats after a 25-yard run.

The defensive highlights were Alvin Hills pick and Malik Jones' quarterback sack.

During the pre-practice field goal kicking, Brad Craddock hit all seven of his tries including kicks from 45 and 52-yards. Adam Greene connected on 4 of 7 and was good from 40 and 45-yards. He missed on a 52-yarder.
