COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Five Terrapins scored in double figures, as the Maryland women's basketball team beat Lincoln (Pa), 115-52, in the Terps' final exhibition match.
Freshman Faith Masonius, and sophomore Shakira Austin led the Terps with 21 points apiece. Austin also led the team with nine rebounds. Masonius was right behind her with seven, while also going a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line.
Senior Kaila Charles went 7-for-8 from the field, contributing 17 points and leading the Terps with four steals, in just 18 minutes of play. Freshman Ashley Owusu scored 12 points, adding three assists and two steals, while senior Sara Vujacic added 10 points, shooting a perfect 2-for-2 beyond the arc.
Freshman Diamond Miller added nine points, joining Charles with four steals. Seniors Stephanie Jones and Blair Watson both contributed eight points, while SophomoreTaylor Mikesell had six. Junior Channise Lewis scored three, and led the Terps with five assists.
Maryland shot 55 percent from the field, holding Lincoln to just 32 percent. The Terps outrebounded the Lions 50-31, got 21 steals and forced 37 turnovers.
Maryland jumped out to a 36-15 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Lions made a bucket to start the second quarter to cut it to 19, then Austin sunk a free throw and the Lions never got within 20.
The Terrapins were picked by both the Big Ten head coaches and the league's media panel to win the conference title this season.
The Terrapins are No. 5 in the preseason ESPNW and NCAA polls. The preseason Associated Press poll will be released Wednesday.
The Terrapins' non-conference schedule is highlighted by contests with South Carolina, Clemson and North Carolina State. The Terrapins will also take on RPI top-50 team Quinnipiac and 2019 NCAA Tournament participant Belmont.
