WBB: Terps release non-conference schedule

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland women's basketball team released its non-conference slate for the 2019-20 season Monday, which includes contests against five teams that finished in the RPI top 55 last year.

The Terrapins will host South Carolina and Quinnipiac, who both finished in the RPI top 50. They will take on ACC opponents Clemson and North Carolina State, as well as NCAA Tournament team Belmont, away from College Park.

The Terrapins will officially open the new season on Wednesday, Nov. 6 with a home matchup against Wagner.

On Sunday, Nov. 10, Maryland will host South Carolina at the XFINITY Center in the teams' third consecutive year of matchups. Last season, the ninth-ranked Terrapins won at No. 10 South Carolina, 85-61.

On Wednesday, Nov. 13, the Terps will make the trip to Harrisonburg, Va. to take on James Madison, another RPI top 50 opponent from last season.

Maryland will return home for three straight home games before Thanksgiving. The Terrapins will host Delaware on Sunday, Nov. 17, George Washington on Wednesday, Nov. 20 and Quinnipiac on Sunday, Nov. 24.

The Terrapins will travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. for the Daytona Beach Invitational over Thanksgiving weekend. They will take on two NCAA Tournament teams in Clemson, who advanced to the NCAA Second Round this past season, and Belmont on Nov. 29 and 30.

Maryland will travel to Raleigh, N.C. to take on NC State in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Thursday, Dec. 5. The Terrapins are 11-1 all-time in the Challenge and 10-5 against the Wolfpack under head coach Brenda Frese.

Next, Maryland will return home to host Loyola on Sunday, Dec. 8 before a break for final exams.

The Terrapins will travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia State on Wednesday, Dec. 18 before a break for the holidays.

This year, Maryland welcomes the No. 3 freshman class in the country, featuring Faith Masonius, Diamond Miller, Ashley Owusu and Zoe Young, as well as transfer Mimi Collins.

The Terps welcome back all five starters, including All-Big Ten honorees Kaila Charles, Stephanie Jones, Shakira Austin and Big Ten Freshman of the Year Taylor Mikesell.

The Terrapins earned a record of 29-5 last season and won the Big Ten regular season title. They advanced to the Big Ten Tournament championship game for the fifth straight year and then went to the NCAA Second Round.
