SPLIT, CROATIA -- The Maryland women’s basketball team dominated the second and final game of its Croatian Tour, 92-53, over All Star Split at Mala Dvorana S.C. Gripe in Split Sunday evening.
Freshman Breanna Williams led the Terrapins with 20 points, as she went 7-16 from the floor and 5-5 at the free throw line. Redshirt junior Saylor Poffenbarger added 14 points and 13 rebounds, while senior Shyanne Sellers added 15 points. Senior Christina Dalce scored 12 points and 11 boards.
Junior Bri McDaniel scored 11 points and graduate Sarah Te-Biasu added 10 points.
Poffenbarger scored the first 5 pts for Maryland, who started on an 8-0 run. Split went on a 9-0 run to take the lead, then sophomore Emily Fisher answered to give the Terps the lead for good.
Poffenbarger, Te-Biasu and Williams all hit threes in a key 16-2 run as Maryland led 24-13 at the end of the first quarter.
Maryland held on to a 45-31 lead at halftime, led by Poffenbarger and Williams with 11 points each.
The Terrapins led 55-34 with 6:13 left in the third quarter, then went on an 18-5 run to go up 63-36.
The Terps’ defense forced 29 turnovers and Maryland won the rebounding battle, 53-25.
