WBB: Terps earn All-B1G honors

ROSEMONT, IL – Three members of the Maryland women’s basketball team (17-12, 9-9 B1G) earned All-Big Ten honors from the league’s media panel and head coaches Tuesday.

Junior Shyanne Sellers was named a First Team honoree by both groups. Graduate student Jakia Brown-Turner was named to the Second Team by the league’s coaches and earned Honorable Mention honors from the media. Sophomore Bri McDaniel earned Honorable Mention honors from both groups.

Sellers earned First Team honors from the media for the second straight season. She led the Terrapins in scoring with 15.3 points per game and in assists with 5.3 per game. Sellers was second on the team in rebounds (5.0 rpg) and in steals (1.4 spg).

Sellers, who was a Preseason All-Big Ten honoree, has scored in double figures in 22 of 28 games this season. She has picked up four double-doubles on the year and was named to the Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll twice. She was also named to the Naismith, Lieberman and Wooden Award Watch Lists.

Brown-Turner averaged a team-high 15.7 points per game in conference play. She also leads the Terrapins in rebounding (6.5 rpg). Brown-Turner has scored in double-figures in 21 games, including the last 14 straight, which were all in conference play. She has picked up six double-doubles on the year and was named to the Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll twice.

McDaniel averaged 13.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and led the Terps with 48 steals in her sophomore season. She increased her scoring by 10.0 points and rebounding by 2.4 from her rookie campaign. McDaniel scored in double figures in 18 games, including 12 in Big Ten play.

Freshman Riley Nelson earned a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. Nelson played in 16 games for Maryland and averaged 5.1 points before suffering a season-ending knee injury in January.

Maryland will play ninth-seeded Illinois (14-14, 8-10) Thursday at 12:30 p.m. ET in the 2024 TIAA Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament Second Round at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minn.

Maryland finished in a three-way tie for sixth in the Big Ten and will be the No. 8 seed in the 2024 TIAA Big Ten Tournament this week at the Target Center in Minneapolis. The Terrapins tied with Michigan and Penn State in the final league standings.
