ATLANTA – Sophomore Angel Reese of 11th-ranked Maryland is one of 10 players in the country named a semifinalist for Naismith Defensive Player of the Year the Atlanta Tip-Off Club announced Monday.

Angel Reese leads the Terrapins with 17.6 points and 10.7 rebounds per game, as well as in blocks (31) and is second on the team in steals (45). She leads the Big Ten in total rebounds (300) and is second in the country in offensive rebounds (5.5). Reese also leads the league in double-doubles with 16 this season.
Maryland (21-7, 13-4 B1G) will be the No. 4 seed in the Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament this weekend in Indianapolis at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Maryland will play Friday at approximately 2 p.m. ET in the Big Ten Quarterfinals. Friday's matchup will be televised on the Big Ten Network. The Terps will take on either the No. 5-seed Indiana (19-7, 11-5), 12th-seeded Penn State (11-17, 5-13) or 13th-seeded Rutgers (10-19, 3-14). The Terrapins have won nine of their last 10 games to close the regular season, including wins over top-seeded Ohio State (22-5, 14-4), second-seeded Iowa (20-7, 14-4) and fifth-seeded Indiana (19-7, 11-5) in the last two week.
Maryland is 19-2 all-time in the Big Ten Tournament, advancing to seven straight championship games and winning five Tournament titles.
In the 20 years under head coach Brenda Frese, the Terrapins have earned a top-four seed and double bye in their conference tournament in 17 seasons, including the last 11 straight.
