COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The ninth-ranked Maryland women’s basketball team (3-0) will travel to No. 10 South Carolina (2-0) for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off Sunday at the Gamecock’s Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, S.C.

This is the third all-time meeting between Maryland and South Carolina and the Terrapins' first trip to Columbia. The Terps took their first-ever matchup, 74-60, on Dec. 29, 1997. Last year, the Gamecocks won 94-86 in College Park on Nov. 13. The Terrapins made it a one-possession game with under 1:00 to play, but South Carolina held off their late push. Kaila Charles led Maryland with 31 points and 10 rebounds.
Maryland handled George Washington, 69-30, Wednesday in its first road game of the season. Brianna Fraser led the way with 16 points and 6 rebounds. The Colonials' 30 points were the fewest allowed by the Terps' defense since 2015. The Terrapins held GW to just 18 percent from the floor (10-for-57).
Charles needs to score six points to become the 33rd Terrapin to reach 1,000 career points. She also needs nine rebounds to reach 500 in her career.
She is one of 50 players in the country named to the Citizen Naismith Watch List, announced Monday. Shakira Austin was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week Monday after her first week as a Terrapin. She averaged 13.0 points, 13.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks in her first two games at Maryland.

Head coach Brenda Frese and her staff signed the No. 1 recruiting class in the country Wednesday, as ranked by ESPNW and Blue Star Basketball. Guard Ashley Owusu (Woodbridge, Va.) is the highest-ranked player of the four signees, coming in as the No. 5 overall player, as ranked by ESPNW and Blue Star. Guard Diamond Miller (Somerset, N.J.) is ranked No. 14 by Blue Star and No. 18 by ESPNW, guard Zoe Young (Des Moines, Iowa) is No. 22 by Blue Star and No. 30 by ESPNW and forward Faith Masonius (Manaquan, N.J. is No. 25 by Blue Star and No. 49 by ESPNW.
In the last four years, Frese signed the No. 1 class in 2016, the No. 4 class in 2018 and the No. 1 class again in 2019. She has brought in 13 top 10 recruiting classes in her 17 seasons at Maryland.

After Sunday’s contest, the Terrapins will travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico to play in the Puerto Rico Clasico tournament over Thanksgiving. They will take on Morgan State (1-2) Friday and No. 14 Georgia ( 2-1) Saturday. Both games will be played at noon ET and will be streamed live online here.
