WBB: No. 4 Terps to meet Purdue in B1G tourney title game

INDIANAPOLIS -- The fourth-ranked and second-seeded Maryland women's basketball team (29-2) will take on fifth-seeded Purdue (22-11) in the Big Ten Tournament Championship game Sunday at 7 p.m. ET at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Maryland owns the all-time series with Purdue, 8-1, and has won the last six straight matchups. Most recently, the Terps won 85-70 in West Lafayette on Feb. 2 with the most points scored on the Boilermakers all year. Brianna Fraser scored 18 points and Ieshia Small added 14 off the bench. Brionna Jones added 17 points and 14 boards, Shatori Walker-Kimbrough scored 12 and Destiny Slocum added 10.

The Terrapins are 8-0 in the Big Ten Tournament and 5-0 in Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Last year, Walker-Kimbrough was named Tournament MOP after averaging 19.0 points and 8.3 rebounds in the three-game stretch. Jones was named to the All-Tournament Team after posting 16.7 points and 13.3 boards per game in the run.

Maryland is 12-3 all-time in conference tournament title games, winning 10 ACC Tournament titles and two Big Ten Tournament titles. Head coach Brenda Frese has led the Terrapins to four conference tournament titles and three regular season titles.

Jones and Walker-Kimbrough were unanimous All-Big Ten First Team selections this week, both earning the honor for the third straight year. They were both named to the All-Big Ten Defensive Team. Slocum was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and to the All-Big Ten Second Team. Kaila Charles earned All-Big Ten Freshman Team honors and Kristen Confroy earned a Sportsmanship Award.

Maryland beat Michigan State, 100-89, Saturday in the Big Ten Semifinals. Jones was 12-14 from the field and 8-9 from the foul line for 32 points, 21 in the second half, with 9 boards and 6 assists. Walker-Kimbrough scored 22 points and Charles and Slocum each added 18. The Terps' 100 points set a Big Ten Tournament record.

Walker-Kimbrough is No. 4 on Maryland's all-time scoring list with 2,086 career points, passing Kristi Toliver (2,078) Saturday. Walker-Kimbrough's career three-point percentage of 46.2 percent is currently the best in Maryland history ahead of Toliver's 40.8 percent and is a Big Ten record. She currently has made 181 three-pointers in her career, which is No. 2 in Maryland history.

Jones is No. 3 on Maryland's rebounding list with 1,161 career boards. She is No. 8 on Maryland's scoring list with 1,838 points and her career field goal percentage of .667 is also a Big Ten record.

Slocum has set Maryland freshman records for threes made and assists this season.

Jones is leading the country in field goal percentage (.693) for the second straight year. The Terrapins lead the country in scoring (90.4) and are No. 2 in field goal percentage (.509) and rebounding margin (+15.3). They are third in scoring margin (+25.9) and fourth in assists (20.3).

In Big Ten play, Slocum led the league in assists with 7.5 per game and Jones led in rebounding (11.4).
