COLLEGE PARK, MD – The No. 14 Maryland women's basketball team cruised to an 80-65 win over Nebraska Cornhuskers on Sunday afternoon on Senior Day at the XFINITY Center. Graduate student Chloe Bibby led The Terps (17-6, 9-3 B1G) with 21 points as Maryland picked up its fifth straight victory.
Along with Bibby, Angel Reese collected her 13th double-double of the season with 15 points and 16 rebounds. Shyanne Sellers (11 points), Katie Benzan (11 points), Mimi Collins (10 points), and Diamond Miller (10 points) were also in double-figures for the Terps.
Maryland's defense was smothering as it held Nebraska to just 38% shooting while forcing 19 turnovers that led to 26 points. The Terps also owned the paint, outscoring the Cornhuskers 30-26 down low and outrebounding it 47-37.
Nebraska (17-5, 6-5) was led by Ashley Scoggin's 20 points.
Brenda Frese’s Take
“Senior day is always a really special day all around, and it’s so awesome to be able to be able to have all the seniors’ families here today, especially Chloe [Bibby]’s all the way from Australia to be a part of this special day. I thought we honored our seniors with one of the best performances to date. I mean, we were ready to play from the tip, energy and effort on both ends of the floor, and I thought we played with a lot of great poise and confidence. We had some early adversity through the foul trouble, not having Ashley [Owusu] in this game, and we just continued to play the right way. Tai [Kozlova] was huge, she gave us really, really important minutes in this game on the defensive end, just with her energy and emotion. Maryland basketball is playing that way - defending, rebounding, six players in double figures. It makes us really hard to guard when we play that way as a team. Nebraska’s a really good team. For us to hold them to 20 points in the first half and play the way we did defensively, this is some great momentum for us right now as we continue to try and build off these games.”
