WBB: Jones Invited to USA Pan American Games Team Trials

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Rising senior Stephanie Jones of the Maryland women's basketball team has accepted an invitation to participate in the 2019 USA Women's Pan American Games Team trials.

Trials to select the 12-member team will take place May 16-20 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The team members will return to Colorado Springs for training camp July 23-Aug. 5, before competing in the women's basketball tournament at the 2019 Pan American Games from Aug. 6-10 in Lima, Peru.

Athletes eligible for this team must be U.S. citizens who currently are enrolled as a full-time collegiate student with remaining eligibility for the 2019-20 school year.

Jones earned All-Big Ten Second Team honors this season, She led the Terrapins in field goal percentage this season at 59 percent, which was also No. 3 in the Big Ten and No. 14 in the NCAA. She averaged 12.8 points and 6.0 boards this year and scored in double figures in 26 of 34 games.

Ten Terrapins have played for their respective national teams under head coach Brenda Frese, eight on U.S. national squads. Frese's Terrapins have won nine gold medals in international play.

Rising sophomore Shakira Austin and incoming freshman Diamond Miller will participate in USA Basketball's U19 Team Trials May 16-19 in Colorado Springs.

Jones, Austin, Taylor Mikesell and Blair Watson will compete in USA Basketball's 3X3 National Championships in Las Vegas this weekend as a Maryland team. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held for the first time outdoors at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center, located in the heart of downtown Las Vegas. The USA 3x3 Nationals will tip-off with preliminary games from 3-10:30 p.m. (all times listed are local, PDT) on Friday, May 3.

The preliminary round will continue from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on May 4, and, after teams are seeded based on preliminary records, the knockout round will begin Saturday at 6 p.m. The women's championship game, which will be streamed live online at usab.com/live, is set to tip at 10 p.m. Rosters can be found online here.
