COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Rising sophomore Shakira Austin and incoming freshman Diamond Miller of the Maryland women's basketball team have accepted invitations to participate in the 2019 USA Women's U19 World Cup Team trials. Invitations were issued by the USA Basketball Women's Junior National Team Committee.

Trials to select the 12-member team will be held May 16-19 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Training camp will follow July 5-19, with the U19 World Cup competition taking place July 20-28 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Players eligible for this team must be U.S. citizens, born on or after Jan. 1, 2000.

Austin earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention, All-Big Ten Freshman Team and All-Big Ten Defensive Team honors in her rookie year. She broke the program record for blocks in a season with 89 this year. She averaged 8.4 points per game. Austin led the Terps in rebounding with 9.5 per contest, which was also fourth in the Big Ten.

Miller will come to College Park this summer from Somerset, N.J. She earned McDonald's All-America honors this year and was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in New Jersey. Miller is a 6-1 guard that led her Franklin High School team to a 34-0 season this year, capped off with a NJSIAA Tournament of Champions title.

Ten Terrapins have played for their respective national teams under head coach Brenda Frese, eight on U.S. national squads. Frese's Terrapins have won nine gold medals in international play.

Austin, Stephanie Jones, Taylor Mikesell and Blair Watson will compete in USA Basketball's 3X3 National Championships in Las Vegas this weekend as a Maryland team.
