We reported this in our story following Cam Hayes' unofficial visit to Maryland a few weeks back, but this past weekend he made it 'officially' official and he is now a member of the 2020 class again. He was previously the No. 27-ranked player overall in the class of 2021.
He took his first official visit this past weekend to NC State and said he thought about committing, but held off as he still wants to take all of his other official visits to Tennessee, Louisville and Maryland. He's looking for an offense where he can run a lot of pick and rolls and is looking to be handed the keys to the offense from Day 1. Terps are 100% heavily in the mix here and should have a very real shot of landing him, especially given the fact that they are set to get the final official visit.
At this point, I think Hayes has become the staff's top priority, as he is expected to commit in the coming weeks. He also has family in the area which seems to help Maryland's chances.
Turgeon was in to see Hayes this morning for an open gym and they continue to really push hard here. He'll take his official visit to Tennessee this upcoming weekend, Louisville the following weekend and then Maryland the weekend of the Penn St. game.
