Finally.
After a long string of conference losses, and recently, despite a noticeable uptick in the quality of play, the Terrapins hosted the Hoosiers of Indiana on Senior Day and the final home game of the event-filled 2015 campaign.
Indiana, which started the season so strongly with four straight non-conference wins and then nearly upset Ohio State, had fallen on hard times. The Hoosiers came to Byrd Stadium having lost six in a row, three of them close; one on a last second field goal in a three-digit scorefest to Rutgers, and another, in a nearly equally high-scoring affair to Michigan, in double OT.
The Terps, playing for pride at this point in the season, came to the game determined to depart from Byrd for 2015 on a positive note.
And so it was.
As expected, Indiana found the end zone early, coming out of the gates to drive for a touchdown on its first possession. The Terps' defense, toughened, however, denying the visitors the end zone again until moments before the end of the first half. Meanwhile, Perry Hills connected with Lavern Jacobs down the left sideline for one TD, while running for another; Brandon Ross garnered his own score and Brad Craddock hit a 40 yard field goal to complete first half scoring, and the Terps carried a 24-14 lead into the locker room.
Indiana roared back in the third quarter with two touchdowns on long drives, while holding their hosts scoreless through that period. The Terps weren't able to find the end zone again, but got close three times -- close enough in each instance for Adam Greene, filling in for the injured Brad Craddock, to hit three field goals, thus leading the Terps to their first B1G win of the campaign, 33-31.
