NASHVILLE, Tenn. – University of Maryland running back Ty Johnson was selected by the Detroit Lions in the 6th round (159th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft on Saturday.
Johnson is the third Terp to be selected in this year's draft as Darnell Savage Jr. was drafted in the first round by the Green Bay Packers and Byron Cowart was selected in the fifth round by the New England Patriots. Maryland has now had multiple players selected in the NFL Draft in four of the last five years, and has had three players selected for the first time since 2016.
Johnson finished his Terrapin career as one of the most decorated running backs in school history, finishing fourth all-time in rushing yards (2,635) and third in all-purpose yards (4,196).
