His name is Gorjak Gak and he's been in the U.S. for about a year by way of Australia.

I've seen the 6-foot-10, 205-pounder twice. In November he couldn't get off his team's bench. On March 1st he was a stand out player at the annual Hoop Exchange Spring Showcase in Orlando Florida. He's athletic and can handle the ball well enough that he will step out to 10-12 feet to receive the ball and take his man off the dribble to score. Gak has nice touch and showed that he can finish at the rim with either hand. He caught everything thrown to him cleanly, including a knee high bounce pass that he caught in the lane, on the move, in traffic and finished at the rim. Still raw offensively in some ways, and definitely needs to add strength.

In March Gak told me that he was hearing from Cincinnati, Tennessee and West Virginia. Thursday his coach told me that Maryland, South Florida, Minnesota, UConn all called to inquire about him after watching him in Dallas.

Gak is best suited for the power forward position but is currently playing small forward for his Florida Sons travel team, which is coached by his Victory Rock Prep head coach. It's a rare instance of a player's AAU system matching his school's system.

It's is unfortunate that he's playing SF because coaches need to see him at his natural position.
