In talking to a few sources yesterday....
- No surprise here at all, but I've been told Shaq Smith is pretty much a done deal. Just waiting for it to be officially announced.
- As for additional names who have been brought up previously as potential transfers, it sounds like Kaindoh could still be a possibility for Maryland. Nothing definitive at this point, but of the guys that have been mentioned previously, I think this is Maryland's best shot.
- Former Virginia Tech DL Trevon Hill has been mentioned as a possibility still to Maryland, despite the fact that he committed to Miami. He did not sign an LOI so the aid papers he signed are non-binding. I'm told Maryland is still very confident they can flip Hill before the season starts. That said, with so much to unpack with this one, I'm just not as confident he'll end up playing anywhere this fall. Still, worth keeping an eye on.
- While it seemed like Eyabi Anoma was possibly headed back home before spring ball, Saban talked him into staying the day after placing his name in the portal and everything has been fine since. Maybe Anoma could give the portal another thought, but everything I've heard is that he feels comfortable with his decision and is set to be a big part of Bama's defense next year and is likely not going anywhere.
- As for additional needs, OL and CB are the other two positions where they could still use help if the right player became available.
- Finally, not transfer portal related, but it sounds like the Terps will make a big push at RB over the next couple of classes. Based on what they have seen of the current crop of RB, it sounds like they are operating as if they could lose their top two backs this offseason and basically the entire room after next season. So getting some new thoroughbreds in the stable is a top priority.
