Got a chance to talk to Randy for a bit last night.
First thing I asked him about was getting to play with Jordan Spieth. He said they actually only got to play a couple of holes together and not a full round, but that it was a great experience getting to play with him. I asked him who won the holes they played together and he just said that Jordan birdied the holes and he did not. lol
But I just thought I'd post a couple of takeaways before I have a full story:
I know folks have been asking about the scholarship numbers, but the impression I got from coach is that they are pretty happy with the numbers about where they are. They felt good about the talent in the 2016 class and I think were hoping that they might have some extra scholarships for this upcoming class.
That said, he made it very clear that they are always looking to upgrade the roster and if there are some fifth-year guys they think can come in and contribute, they are interested in bringing them aboard. The key seems to be that any additions they might look to make at this juncture are going to be one-year guys.
In talking about players helping recruit other players, he mentioned that while Stefon really put Maryland on the map with top kids and helped start the stay at home movement, he isn't the type of guy that's going to necessarily go out and recruit other guys. He credits Adam McLean with really getting this ball rolling with the younger local guys. And of course Haskins is taking that to another level.
Finally, he said Daxx is doing well adjusting to Maryland but didn't have too much to add as this week was pretty much the staff's one week to kind of get away. He said everyone is back at it starting today with summer camps starting up and fall camp approaching.
