COLLEGE PARK, Md. – After throwing for 391 yards and accounting for five touchdowns in Maryland’s 56-21 win at Charlotte, redshirt junior quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa has been named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

Tagovailoa is the first Maryland player to win the award twice, also claiming weekly honors on Nov. 2, 2020. The Terps quarterback shares the weekly award with Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.

In Maryland's win at Charlotte, Tagovailoa completed 27 of 31 passes to set the Terrapins single-game program record for completion percentage. Tagovailoa’s 87% completion rate is the best ever by a Terp quarterback with at least 15 pass attempts in a game.

Despite only playing into the middle of the third quarter, Tagovailoa threw a career-high four touchdown passes in the win, while also scoring another TD on the ground. Tagovailoa now ranks third on Maryland's all-time passing touchdowns list with 37.

With 391 passing yards on Saturday, Tagovailoa now has nine 300-yard performances in his career and he moved into fourth place all-time on Maryland’s career passing yardage list with 5,552.

It's the second straight week a Maryland player has garnered weekly Big Ten recognition as Terps running back Roman Hemby was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week last Monday.

The Terps return to action on Saturday as they host SMU in a battle of undefeated teams. The game is set to kick at 7:30 p.m. and it will air on FS1 and the Maryland Sports Radio Network.
