For the first time all spring the weather was superb with sunny skies and the temperatures in the low 60's. It was a little breezy but a great setting the Terps to wrap up their spring football session. The red team scored early and often and hung on to win 21-16 over the White squad.
The quarterbacks had their moments but it was Perry Hills who had the hotter hand connecting for three scores. His favorite target: Marcus Leak who finished with, unofficially, 6-receptions for 175-yards. Leak's first score came on a simple over the middle pass that he bullied his way for 25-yards into the end zone. His second score was a simple yarder and his third was a 24-yard catch and run. Leak also had catches for 49 and 48-yards plus one for19-yards.
Other notable offensive highlights: Albert Reid had several runs of 15-plus yards plus a 13-yard screen pass. Deandre Lane hauled in a 48-yard pass and Juwann Winfree caught one worth 48-yards.
The big run from scrimmage came from Brandon Ross when he got the white team back into the game early in the second half when he busted off a 56-yard TD run. But, the biggest catch of the game was Levern Jacobs 72-yard catch from Perry Hills.
The outstanding defensive player was clearly Yannick Ngakoue. The defensive end had four sacks and several quarterback hurries and a handful of batted balls. Ngakoue created havoc for the offense all game.
Other defensive notables: Antwaine Carter picked off a Perry Hills pass in the first quarter and then he came back in the fourth quarter and blocked a field goal try. Azubuike Ukandu had a sack as did Brett Kulka. Chandler Burkett blocked a pass.
In the kicking game: Brad Craddock connected on a 50-yard field goal and Lee Shrader had a 64-yard punt.
Because the red team won they will be eating steak and lobster tonight and the white team will dine in beans and hot dogs.
