As I was walking into Maryland's Homecoming game against Wisconsin earlier, I happened to run into 2016 four-star tight end Naseir Upshur, who was a big-time Terps target before he committed to Florida State in September.
Upshur said he made the trip down from Philadelphia because his coach thought he should take every opportunity he gets to see as many schools as possible. He mentioned that he's going to meet up with one of his good friends DeMatha's D.J. Turner, who is a Terps 2016 commit and also at the game. Upshur is also really close with current Maryland wide receiver D.J. Moore, who was his high school teammate at Imhotep Charter.
The biggest takeaway is that Upshur also said, despite his commitment to the Seminoles, that he plans to take some official visits. He said Maryland is definitely going to be one of them, as well as Florida State, Arizona State and USC. One thing I found interesting was when I asked him if he has been to Florida State at all recently, he said no and that he hasn't really had too much contact with the Seminoles' coaching staff recently.
Maybe his commitment isn't as done of a deal as we thought.
