COLLEGE PARK, Md. (July 14, 2020) – Maryland men’s basketball assistant coach Bino Ranson has been named a top-5 assistant men's basketball coach in the Big Ten Conference, as announced today by Stadium’s Jeff Goodman.
Ranson, who just completed his 10th season as a Maryland assistant, was ranked the fifth overall assistant coach in the conference.
Ranson and the Terps have garnered 223 victories during his 10-year tenure, including 204 (20.4/season) in nine years as an assistant to head coach Mark Turgeon.
Maryland has made the NCAA Tournament four of the last five seasons, and most recently won the 2020 Big Ten Championship before its season was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Ranson is also known for his recruiting prowess, helping Maryland secure top-25 signing classes five out of seven seasons between 2012 and 2018. One of the highlights was the No. 7 ranked 2018 class, which featured McDonald’s All-American and future All-American Jalen Smith.
Ranson has helped develop seven NBA Draft selections while at Maryland: Alex Len, Jordan Williams, Jake Layman, Diamond Stone, Kevin Huerter, Justin Jackson, Bruno Fernando.
