Maryland has put out several new hoops offers following the first live period. Below is a rundown on each.
JP Estrella
One of the biggest stock risers from the first Under Armour session, Estrella picked up offers yesterday from Maryland, Cal, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Wisconsin. He's from Portland, Maine, which also happens to be the home of former Terps star Nik Caner-Medley. He had 14 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks in their opening win over Atlanta Xpress on Friday night. Grant Billmeier is leading the way in his recruitment.
Papa Kante
Terps also offered 6-foot-10, four-star center Papa Kante of South Kent (Conn.), who is running with the NY Rens on the EYBL circuit this spring. Kante is AAU teammates with four-star wing Aaron Clark who picked up a Terps offer just before the live period began. Kante averaged 7 points, 5.8 boards and .8 blocks per during the four games of the opening EYBL session.
Thomas Haugh
Back to the UAA, Terps offered WER1 stretch forward Thomas Haugh who is from the York, Pa. area. Haugh is AAU teammates with top PG target Elmarko Jackson and has flown a bit under the radar primarily due to reclassifying and where he's from. But this kid has a high motor, good vision, can stretch the defense and is a solid rim protector. On Saturday, in his team's second game, he had 10 points, 8 boards, 2 assists and 6 blocks. Maryland his first HM offer, but at 6-foot-9, 200-pounds, if he keeps playing the way he has, more are going to come and the Terps are smart for having gotten in early, especially considering he is at a very Terp-friendly program in WER1 (he was previously with Philly Pride).
Jaydn Harris
Finally, the Terps offered 2024 four-star wing Jadyn Harris of Bishop O'Connell who is running with Team Thrill's 16U team this spring. Versatile wing with good size who comes from the same high school program that produced Melo Trimble.
A few other names the Terps are monitoring and are yet to offer include Team Melo's Solomon Ball, who had a breakout EYBL session last weekend, averaging 20 points (shot over 40% from 3), 5.2 boards, 1.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Ball attends St. James School out in Hagerstown and already has offers from the likes of Illinois, Providence, Virginia Tech and more.
Another name to keep an eye on is Team Thrill 6-foot-7 guard Eli Rice, who plays his high school basketball out in Tennessee. The lefty scorer had a solid first session.
