Spoke with Jacksonville (Fla.) Creekside three-star OT Matt McCoy tonight. He picked up a Terps offer yesterday, but I was told by a source earlier today that the staff is extremely high on this kid's potential and this is one that could happen quickly. He was 6-foot-6 around 250 last year, playing hoops, tight end and defensive end. He's since added about 25 lbs and has made the transition to tackle. Miami (Ohio) was the first school to start really showing interest and then the Terps were the first offer. He says there's a very good chance he's taking an official visit this weekend but won't know for sure until later tonight. The staff wanted to get down to Florida to see him in person this week but apparently his game is tomorrow night and they aren't going to be able to get down there.
But the most interesting note here was when he told me that Locks told him they have been taking too many tackles that are big and have size, but end up not being able to move well and have to be shifted inside to guard. He said they are looking for more athletic guys who can move well and that they can work on their frames once they are on campus. I think that's a smart move and is even something that has been discussed here with regards to some of the top local offensive tackles. Anyways, will write up a story here when I get a chance, but he appears to be a take and could happen relatively soon.
