Maryland head coach Randy Edsall wanted to send a message to all of his players, starters and reserves, that nothing was going to be handed to them in terms of playing time and starting jobs. The team came out a bit rusty after a week's vacation.
Right out of the gate, Edall mixed up his secondary moving Antwaine Carter to field corner from free safety. Josh Woods moved from field corner to free safety and Zach Dancel switched from strong safety to free safety.
On the offensive front, Edsall moved Damian Prince to right tackle, Derwin Gray to left tackle and Mike Dunn to left tackle. Edsall said that Damian is playing much better and that Gray had to understand that he has to earn his spot in the line-up. All of the changes are experimental at this point. Things can change in the spring from day-to-day and nothing it etched in stone for the fall.
As far as the quarterback situation, gone are the free agents, Corey Edall, Dustin Daily and McMahon because Perry Hills is back. Hills looked rusty and struggled passing the ball throwing four interceptions in team drills. Abner Logan and Brock Dean had two of Perry's picks. DeAndre Payne picked off one of Shane Cockerille's passes as well. Overall, the QB's continue to be average, at best. Caleb Rowe is still involved in practice signaling in plays and stuff like that.
The runningback situation is still a crowded situation and all three, Albert Reid, Brandon Ross and Jaquille had ther moments. Edsall says he likes what he sees in Ross and realized that it will be another battle for playing time, especially when Wes Brown returns in the fall. Reid did have a couple nice long TD runs of 30 and 25-yards this morning.
Brad Craddock has the kicking game locked down hitting all five of his tries including an inpressive looking 45-yarder. Adam Greene looked good, too, hitting four of his five including a 48-yarder.
In the secondary, Will Likely continues to impress and scooped up a botched snap on a field goal try and took it to the house, some 65-yards.
On Wednesday the Terps will go more like and scrimmage this Saturday. So, for the rest of the spring it will be 'thud' on Monday's, live on Wenesday's and scrimmage on Saturdays.
